Samsung found to be throttling performance on over 10,000 Android apps for its devices

Benchmarking apps are whitelisted though.

Huh, our European phones don't have game optimizing service? One thing good about Exynos I guess.

Rly, 04 Mar 2022Cmon Apple errrr Samsung... Whatever, same same nearly 🤬Lol Apple throttle their whole OS not only on specific apps

Reducing FPS by more than a half, using an app which is actually supposed to boost performance.

What a shameful way to solve their overheating issues…

Come on people, did anyone believed the synthetic tests made on especially prepared test units? And this applies to all makers, not just Samsung. They send these prepared units for tests, people do synthetic tests, numbers go through the roof, resulting in wow's and all sort of exclamations and titles like "the most powerful phone ever". Of course, the average users watches these videos and buys one of these phone and what do you know...surprise, weak battery life, high temperatures during normal use and other features that under perform. And then a lot of complaints and negative reviews but it's for nothing, the money are gone and when it's over 1000 Euros it's worse.

Olympus Oms, 04 Mar 2022Just add the apps in the game booster, and they will be boo... more...oh, yeah, you could probably do that, I forgot. Other game boosters can do that too, like Oppo's if I remember correctly.

That's bad, throttling is different from optimizing. They shoud remove bloatware that runs in the background rather than throttling performance of many apps. That will also remove heat. Let the user uninstall preloaded apps entirely, that even after reset it will not install again. Galaxy store and google play can be access on web anyway.

Just add the apps in the game booster, and they will be boosted like the games. Ez fix.

But of course when Samsung started to fix the broken game tuner app on s8/s9 era, where you could even overclock it, Samsung abandoned the app, the service in 2020. It really is a MEME :(

It's not anything new actually. From what I remember game tuner and game optimising service from android 6-7-8 era (samsung experience/grace samsung touchwiz UI) was throttling any game or app that was added to "games" category instead of "non games" category. Yeah, without any limiter the battery would die faster, BUT afterall why do you get a flagship if you don't use it at it's maximum potential? If I want to limit the consumption, I limit it myself, not forced by someone else!
The good ol' quote "I paid for the whole (thing), I'm gonna use the whole (thing)" is still valid even today...

Great ! Give us the Option to throttle ALL Apps WE want. The Battery runtime would go through the roof :)

Interesting the review units didn't have this installed. By design for better reviews?

I also suspect performance issues with unoptimised drivers etc probably more the reason for delayed launch, rather than chip shortages. 🤷‍♂️

Its not just games being throttled but other apps and general weird poor performance at times for some. (Video stabilisation etc).

Does seem the ultra at 1440 and 120hz is more prone to issues, which hints at gpu drivers needing work and/or memory issues.

I'm waiting until a proper performance patch is out before ordering my s22+, especially as gb5 scores are barely putting the phone x2 faster than my 5 year old s8.

Why do people care so much for these little optimisations that save battery and prevent overheating. Latest chips are far too powerful. You won't notice a drop in performance unless heavy gaming

I'm here before the apocalypse happens.

I'm giving this a minor yikes, I do hope that Samsung adds the option for people to modify or disable this throttling, even if it may be helping to stop excessive heat.
