iFixit’s teardowns of the Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra reveal still-poor repairability scores

04 March 2022
Battery replacement is difficult, the glass backs are fragile and held on with lots of adhesive, and the design is not friendly for screen repairs.

My question is, why does Samsung using li-ion battery instead li-polymer?
I thought they use it in their low range phone lineup, but even in the flagship class device still using li-ion.
NB: there is nothing wrong about li-ion for me, though

Something needs to be done about using copious amounts of adhesive inside a phone to keep the parts intact. Surely there's a better material which is also easier to remove? More R&D is needed.

Samsung went from the company with the most repairable phones to the least repairable ones.

Apparently they read the same data that Apple execs knew. Low repairability = more sales and nobody talks, not really.

What's funny is that they were making fun of the worse product that Apple was offering for years and ... they ended up doing the same (nothing replecable, designed to be almost unrepairable). Good job Samsung, as long as people keep on falling for the scam, good job!

For example S6 Edge, S7 edge and S8 or S8 plus new screen cost around 200 here in my country in slovakia. Plus price of repair service.
Another example best flagship grade device of 2021 year Xiaomi Mi 11 ultra cost 250 euros new original screen plus price of replacement by repair shop.
Difference is like 50 euros between new flagship grade device of Xiaomi and 5-7 years old flagship grade devices by Samsung.

Disappointing repairability score. iPhone 13 scored 6/10.

The more expensive the phone, the pricier the repair. So even if this phone had the best possible repair "score", it wouldn't lower the actual price. What lowers it is time passed since release date (even for phones with bad repair scores). So even though your argument has logic, it simply doesn't work like that in real life. That's why repair scores don't matter to anyone without a home repair lab as a hobby (100 people in the world mabe?).

Solun1, 05 Mar 2022These scores are useless because they just don't matte... moreEven if you take it to repair shop, they will be liable for damages done during battery replacement process. If back glass breaks while doing replacement, they'll have to supply a new one. Which means they'll have to somehow cover that loss through higher service prices of battery itself. Opposed to phone which is guaranteed to not be further damaged during repair.

These scores are useless because they just don't matter. When your phone breaks, you just take it in to get the repair done and it gets done. Almost no one has a home lab for phone repairs and if they do, it's their hobby and they do it for the fun of it. Or they record repairability videos like this one which nobody cares about.

The main thing for Samsung is the environment and does not include a charger with the Galaxy series. The funny thing is that in the end they created a disposable device, with the battery mortality thrown in the trash and those who try to repair will have to replace some parts following their break while trying to replace the battery. Another thing, Samsung provided the first buyers with a large cardboard box, which also pollutes ...

post Scriptum. Owners of the Galaxy S22 series expected the most expensive battery replacement in the cellular industry. The labs will charge a premium for the possibility of secondary damage while replacing the battery. And not to mention on screen ...

smartphone become very solid, unbreakable and dust/water resistant so repairability will be difficult.

iiSnewoNL, 05 Mar 2022Kinda weird since PBKReviews says something else??Either one could be a paid site but judging Samsung’s history of gluing batteries and making screen replacements difficult as you usually need to replace the whole front panel (with the battery), not just the screen.

I have to agree with iFixIt.
