“Making an $800 phone doesn’t make sense for us at the moment,” said HMD’s Global Head of Product Marketing.

Phones with sd 662 and 680 are available at cheaper price than sd 480 because sd 480 is tier above those soc.

We saw that with SD690, which impressed against SD765G, but got slapped by SD780G. It's better elder brother still got pummeled by SD778G.

CPU review sites still class 4xx as low end. Qualcomm, on their own, isn't stupid. Like I said before, a new 4xx catching up with or beating the existing top 6xx or even 7xx chip doesn't mean anything when the next top 6xx or 7xx beats it. It's how you know what that 2/4/6/7/8 stands for:
    2 and 4= low-end
    6 and 7= midrange
    8= highend

Trying to change that to fit your narrative is weak.

According to notebookcheck (they know about CPUs more than you do), "the Qualcomm Snapdragon 480 5G (SM4350) is a lower mainstream SoC for (Android based) smartphones and tablets."

You know that it's a low-end chip when it fails to beat any 6xx chip launched after it.
PCmag's subtitle reads "The Snapdragon 480 doubles CPU and GPU performance and introduces 5G into even lower-end phones."

Now, go find us a reputable website that corroborates your stance. Until then, it's just your subjective take.

Sorry to break it to you, however, the SD 480 and it's + brother is only a. midrange SoC in the current generation in your biased opinion.

So sd 480 is older than newer midrange and its still more powerfull but.

And this is classification of sd series.

                  -200 series lowend
                  -400 series lowend or midrange
                  -600 series midrange
-700 series midrange or upper midrange
                  -800 series flagship.

And this is not the first time Qualcomm did this there was a time sd 625 was a most famous midrange then they anounced sd 450 which was rebrabded sd 625.

So, I'll ask again: "Kindly classify SD chips of 2021 till date into low-end, midrange and highend, please. Let's find out how correct you are—or expose your weak stance." OR is that too difficult for you? Lol.

Bringing up chips released before 2021 is shitty logic. How you find out current classifications is with chips in the same generation. Or is SD865 still a flagship SoC? I mean, SD870 was never a flagship SoC, but still bettered it in most areas. Should we call SD480 a highend chip, then, since it beats SD835, a one-time flagship? Face the fact: Snapdragon 480 is a low-end chip. That it betters previous generations of midrange chips—and even flagship ones—is a moot point. Of course, that is to be expected in a constantly improving space.

They maybe swayed by the brand name for reputation or who they have heard of etc.

It's only people that are interested in phones that know about specs and numbers and go on about them like life depends on them.

Cheap sells and if it works ok people don't care.

LG actually had flagships. HMD has never released a flagship.

It's a shame as I owned an N8 and thought it was an excellent phone, with good specs and a great screen. If they still produced a flagship phone I'd still buy it s I liked the quality HMD bring to the market
