The Xiaomi 12 trio receives perfect A+ marks from DisplayMate

16 March 2022
The displays are calibrated at the factory, which helped to achieve "visually indistinguishable from perfect" results on multiple tests.

Nick Tegrataker, 16 Mar 2022That really depends on which phone you're using, what ... moreIn case you are outdoors under heavy sunlight.
Phone cannot sustain peak brightness much long because it gets hot.
At some point, it decreases from 1300 to 850 for example.

Same seen on LG G7 (wrgb LCD). Could for few seconds remain at 1000. Then goes down due to higher temperature generated by the efforts to keep high brightness.

Indoors, obviously phone will never reach max value. Too uncomfy to the eyes.

Shadocx, 16 Mar 2022Samsung seems to focus more on brightness than color depth ... moreSamsung and Apple use 8bit screens. Power used is lower than 10bit .
Also, both use M panels. Higher capacity to push peak brightness compared to E panels.

    E panels are usually about 1300 peak + contrast 5.000.000:1 .

I do not know what Sharp does, but claims R6 screen has peak of 2000 nits and contrast of 20.000.000:1

Anonymous, 16 Mar 2022Peak brightness last for few seconds because phone start to... moreThat really depends on which phone you're using, what kind of environment you're using it in, and what contents you display on it. For instance, the peak brightness doesn't get lowered automatically when you're playing an HDR video regardless of the situation, but some phones (not all - this is important) dim down the panel after some time to reduce the power consumption when you're using the phone outside and the auto-brightness is turned on. I've seen this behaviour on iPhone and Samsung phones but not ones made by other brands.

This is what the person means by "no sustained performance".

Shadocx, 16 Mar 2022Short answer: because they are OLED and not LCD.So IpsDisplay is talking about the wear-out of pixels on OLED panels? I've never seen anyone referring to it using the terms like "sustained" or "peak".

Displaymate ratings are almost meaningless for flagships as almost all of them are rated are A+. Even the k40 was A+. Has there been any flagship or budget flagship in the last year that was sent to Displaymate that hasn't had an A+ rated display?

Wow, Xiaomi must have spent a fortune on this! ...I mean on paying the test, the display is obviously no better than every other phone these days.

DisplayMate became same meme of a company as DxOMark. The better score the phone gets the worse, because you know you will eventually pay for it as a customer with increased price of the device.
