Samsung claims that yields from its 5 nm foundries are improving

18 March 2022
Those foundries are making chips like the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, but are seeing low yield rates.

qualcomm is better.

Lol smh what nonsense Qualcomm is the one that makes these contracts mediatek does not have OEMs on any contracts

2) contracts do not prevent from using chips from other, it is own choice of OEMs

It doesn't directly but there are penalties put in place if OEMs use chipsets that are not from Qualcomm I'm just going to say your uninformed because Qualcomm has legally gotten in trouble for this abusing and not adhering to FRAND etc

For example X80 Pro has D9000, while 80 Pro+ has 8g1. Nothing keeps Vivo from doing opposite. Vivo just does not want to.

I see here again you are completely oblivious to bundles Qualcomm has forced OEMs to essentially use many midrange chips were sold WITH deals to use their 8 series

Cheap phones would not use mediatek or unisoc if price was same charged by qualcomm.

For you to easily understand. Let's say one approaches a gold foundry for creating a wedding ring, with a design. Then the foundry makes use of X grams of gold, to create a ring containing x grams of gold. While a different foundry can do the same ring using just X-Y grams of gold. Now think of this customer as a large company placing millions of orders for the ring.
This doesn't have anything to do with the design(although the wastage depends on the design), the savings might be still there with a more efficient design as well.

Anonymous, 18 Mar 2022We dont care Samsung Your SoC are on third place at leastSamsung foundry doesn't care

Funny people think it will be better despite the architecture is the same. The chip will still be power hungry regardless who has fabricated it. OEMs should concentrate on cooling systems since new gen chips are becoming more and more powerful. I glad that charging tech has improved massively great work folks great work. 👏

Its Unfair blaming Samsung foundry while TSMC has 0 design to compare.

Samsung also has lot of design with cortex A78, A76, A75 etc and they did good, Snapdragon 845 if from Samsung Fab and it performed preety well.

You know, competition is good and I appreciate the efforts of Samsung to have an alternative to TSMC, even though their 5nm is widely known to be inferior to TSMC‘s.
I still think that it was a bad move from Qualcomm to choose this inferior process for their flagship Snapdragon 8 series. It would be ok for 7 or 6 series, if it saves money.
