Companies have been working on UDC tech for a while now, although it won't be fully ready for mass adoption this year - but it should be mature enough by next year that companies can start using it in their flagships (or also mid-rangers) without any big worries.
The notch will be gone for good soon, let's hope. It'll stay for the standard iPhone models this year (Pro models get pill + hole), but I have a feeling that next year, they'll put the pill + hole punch holes on the standard models, and put UDC on the Pro models. And once UDC tech goes further, we can say bye to the notches on the Macbooks too.
