Of course MS can change their upgrade policy any time. Just like they can change their pricing and just like Sony can change theirs.
For now this is the way the service is offered. No deal, no espiration date.

In my cost example i put the 1 month Ultimate at 15$, not 1$. This is about the upgrade policy that allows you to buy up to 36 months of Gold at current 55$ per year amazon price and upgrade ALL those months with 1 month purchase of Ultimate that will convert ALL the Gold months to Ultimate months. That makes Ultimate price basically equal to Gold price which is 5$/month on yearly subscriptions which is PS Plus Essential equivalent pricing

I got mine 3 month for $1 too, but after that i pay $11 every month. i dont know exactly content of Sony package but $10 per month isnt bad, especially if you can play older Tittles from ps1, psp, ps2 and ps3.

1 month free from enabling and dissabling autorenew
1 month of ultimate = 15$
That gets you 14 months of ultimate at 70usd
you can turn up to 36 months of gold to ultimate with 1 ultimate month purchase. Just to all golds first and ultimate at the end

In turn, this new PlayStation Plus service does not have first party games guaranteed on "day one" in *any* of its tiers. If you want to play the latest PlayStation first party releases, then you'll very likely have to purchase those games (or play the waiting game for a few months, until those get added to the service). That is a very big difference that more than makes up for the supposed $1 difference.

And that ps one while it cost more per month its cheaper per year (around $10 per month).

About 700 games, from original xbox to series X, you get cloud gaming/streaming (you can play any game on gamepass without downloading it just straight up start streaming like the Google stadia) , you automatically get cross platform gaming and willingness to make things cross compatible with pc because its Microsoft, free game a month, all xbox exclusives. I've not included the in game perks they give you and different discounts you get aswell.
For £11 ($14) you also get the ultimate pass (xbox and pc together) so you get all xbox games and pc pass games for your pc and xbox, which can also play to your phone or tablet so about 1000 games for cheaper than PlayStation subscription and all the original game pass benefits on top. You also get EA play included in that So yeah easily cheaper and far better service than what ps could ever achieve at this point now.
Xbox you can essentially get a contract with "xbox all access" to get a series X for £29 a month (it's less for the series S etc) . You get gold and gamepass ultimate with it, after the times up you can upgrade to a newer/better console.
