For those who r able to repair thier own phone, they dont really need such repair kits. For the dummies who can't fix a thing, they still can't fixed thier phone with these kits

Nice gesture, for the moment, but the parts will most likely not come cheap. I don't expect the price of parts to properly fluctuate in accordance with whole-device street price...unless enough dealers have their hands on these parts that Samsung loses control over pricing, but that would be unlikely as well.

TrashBaby, 02 Apr 2022i have multiple Samsung devices and im nothing but in love ... moreBut you can still get drivers for the screws and fixtures used on the devices, so why are you moaning ? Or are you too lacking in cells to obtain the correct pieces needed ?
Pretty much sounds like it 😉 you see the seems, they aren’t invisible to a normal person

i have multiple Samsung devices and im nothing but in love with them but repairability is NOT a reason why Samsung devices are so good.

in fact, the slick, premium form factor and features like waterproofing demand the components be assembled and secured in a way that makes self repair almost impossible.

its a tradeoff i personally am happy to make for a beautiful phone or a watch that I can run under the faucet and not even think twice about it.

i have a tab s7+, which was mentioned by name in the article, and i can honestly say that if i opened that thing up with even the most care and the best tools i would probably break something vital. im turning it over in my hand right now looking for even a reasonably accessible seam and i cant find one. and forget about screws lmao what are those? if i opened it id for sure snap a cable or pry loose some dried glue or something. or at least scuff up the casing enough where i couldn't easily resell it....

repairing my old galaxy s9 phone was stressful and difficult and i ended up shattering the thankfully already cracked old backing glass. i was able to repair it but it sure as all heck wasn't even water resistant anymore, let alone proof. another thing is that Samsung's glue is INSANELY strong! like legit alien technology levels of strong. you need not only a pry tool but also a hair dryer/heat gun blasting the entire phone for several minutes straight to get that glue loose enough to even open a seam! which is when i shattered the glass. i blasted that phone for a LONG time and it still was a massive pain in the behind.

and i was also able to buy legit Samsung glass (their logo and everything) for it too from a really big and well reviewed eBay seller so i dunno what this self congratulatory pat on the back of an announcement Samsung is giving to itself is supposed to even mean for us...

yeah my tab s7+ would have to be DEAD for me to wanna open it up. no way in heck am i gonna risk cracking that screen if it stills works. this screen is over a foot diagonally, it's for sure gonna spiderweb as soon as ANY torque is applied and i can only imagine Samsung's glue has only gotten stronger since they made the s9. i have a sinking feeling that the only available seam is literally where that screen meets the aluminum casing too. it's the only one i can find. all the other surfaces/corners are just straight up glass or metal.

i am definitely gonna be checking out how Samsung expects me to be able to reliably and safely open this thing up. it will be an entertaining read.

ive never had any device fail on its own, not even the cheap $50 nextbook tablet i got as a gift a long time ago. let alone the premium Samsung stuff I like now... if something breaks it's probably cheaper in the long run to just buy another device instead of repairing it and especially paying someone to do it.

if Samsung and Crapple REALLY gave a flying turd about repairability or the environment they would bring phillips head screws or backs that snap or slide off back but lmao we all know they 10000000% dont.

Everyone wants to be Fairphone, without actually doing anything about their phone design. Especially Samsung. Seeing how ridiculously strong they glue down their batteries, I can't tell if they are joking or real. There is absolutely no reason in this world to glue battery down that much.

This is amazing! Even though I wish the phones were easier to repair to begin with, as in without needing a heat gun or heat pad to remove the glue. This is better than nothing! And to partner with iFixIt is extremely cool of Samsung!
