I just liked the A1 for the telephoto camera.

Best phone I ever had good price with the right specs for the price. 720p screen is not a deal breaker , if you came from a budget like I did this was a massive upgrade.

Xiaomi was awesome under the leadership of Hugo Barra with lots of innovation and projects such as this one. After he left Xiaomi started to topple with many problematic phones, including the Mi 11 Ultra. Mi 10 Ultra and Poco F2 Pro was still great but that was really it. MIUI is now full of bugs and issues, a fall from grace when Xiaomi really cared about software.

I'm one of those people who have just used this series of phones, a1 and a3, and I loved all of them, and I'm actually really sad that xiaomi just ditched the series.

blue, 03 Apr 2022And why would they do that? The One UI makes the difference... moreone ui is very good, that's not up for discussion, but it would be a way to have a phone with the best hardware that the android world can offer (because google pixel phones can't match samsung or apple in terms of hardware ) that way we would have a phone with samsung hardware and android one software, without the bloatware and all that, and the use of qualcomm processors would sweeten the deal (qualcomm beats exynos 99% of the time, that's not up for discussion either) obviously they would be mid-range phones that would accompany the galaxy A very good in terms of quality-price-performance and with a price of more or less $350-$400 (another disadvantage of pixel phones is their ridiculous prices including pixel A) it would be great for keeping the android one project alive for those of us who appreciate beautiful galaxy hardware and at the same time appreciate beautiful clean android one with no bloatware and also timely and long lasting updates but so they are fantasies, it will never happen, never...

solided, 03 Apr 2022Red Mi A1 was gorgeous. No cap, I was just thinking that's one sleek looking phone. I kinda miss the small camera isle on the back too. These days, even if the phone has two cameras, the camera isle is 10 times bigger because apparently bigger camera isle = better camera.

Check Xiaomi Redmi 10C for example. Same amount of cameras, but the camera isle looks... Slightly different, to say at least: https://www.gsmarena.com/xiaomi_redmi_10c-11418.php

A Xiaomi without bloatware and baked-in UI ads? It could never be...

It's a shame Android One hasn't been adopted more widely. In the long term it would increase potential consumers' confidence in the products, so promoting repeat sales. Unfortunately, thanks to its' polluted UI, Xiaomi has tainted it's reputation beyond redemption.

I'm a big fan of android one, I love the fluid nature of it although I understand why some people found it lacking in features, I'm sad that android one isn't a priority for Google and other OEMs but I understand why. I think it's easier to make profit on phones with custom skins than android one, firstly it helps to differentiate their phones from other OEMs
Secondly they also can make money by preloading software and ads on their respective phones
Thirdly they don't need to adhere to the stringent requirements of software support, software support is quite an expensive venture which cost money for it to be timely.
I know that even Nokia's updates of its android one phones are no longer timely but they are still consistent, from the way things are going, I don't think android one would still exist in the near future as it is not just Profitable to support.

Android One or Stock Android or Pixel all are boring and ugly. Just go for Samsung. One UI is superb.

Me and the wife had the mi a2 for a while. They were good phones lightweight and a decent size but the battery was small and that camera bump was ridiculous.

I had the Mi A1 and it was a pretty good phone although a bit fragile, stock Android has this nice clean look but it's too bland for me.Moved to Huawei a couple of years ago, very good quality.

My Mi A1 is still alive! i brought in the first sales.. still serves as my secondary phone.

                                It was xiaomi's fault.

AndroidONE started as an initiative to provide phones with a pure software experience, long-term support, and direct software updates from Google.

But this was only true for the first-generation devices, which were all low-end phones.
All the options listed here are after "Project Silver" was axed from Google. And the "Certificate for AndroidOne" was nothing more than a pinky promise from OEMs.

HMD-Nokia tried, at least initially. But they gave up soon. The Xiaomi A-devices were probably the most popular, but none of them could "pull" updates straight from Google. It was always Xiaomi having to "release" updates. So I stopped recommending them very early when I discovered this.

Trying to buy a phone that is "future-proof" just doesn't work. Get what offers the most bang-for-buck today, and that usually lasts better than something that doesn't. I guess iPhones are somewhat the exception, but that is an entirely different ecosystem with it's own challenges.

Moan about high price but mention moving to ap... moreDepending on your region, the price difference between the Mi 12 series and the latest iPhones is not that big to justify the worse software support compared to the iPhone's gold standard. That is the whole point, at the current pricing, I see no good reason to purchase a Mi 12 Pro in Europe -- there are better choices around that price, even from traditional Android flagships.

I prefers the A3 because its 720p display put less stress on the modest chipset. Battery life of the A3 is on another level for me, it is better than my other phone Samsung A52 when put on 60Hz.

Don’t get me wrong I enjoy using my iPhone 13 but I’m only using one because I got it as a gift, no cost at all.
Otherwise I’d still be happily using just my Sammy A52s and Moto e20

I’ve never had a Xiaomi and was looking at moving to a 12 series sometime in the next 3 or 4 months.
