I think AirPods are wildly overpriced ($160 for a pair of earbuds?), but the convenience of TWS seemed interesting, so I decided to get JLab Go Air Pop (Yes, they're called that) for $20, and I'm probably getting 75% of the experience for 1/8 the price.

Airpods built in life expectancy of 2 years thats the problem. Not going back to apple, when you can get alot more use elsewhere

Also I didn't call myself "audiophile" anywhere. Audiophiles are pretentious pricks who think they know everything just because they throw ridiculous money into audio equipment and ultra pure gold cables. I sometimes do that too "just because", but I don't go around bragging about it to all ends how I now suddenly hear non existent sounds because of it. Like my Sound Blaster AE-9 on which I bolted the highest end MUSES Op-amps, literally just "because why not". People who are so incredibly loud about AirPods being "terrible" and whatnot fall into that "audiophile" category because they are ultra salty just because it's Apple. I bet if we did double blind test many people would most likely end up preferring AirPods which would be super embarassing... Calling AirPods terrible is a stupid claim, they may not be exceptional in any way, but they aren't terrible by any way either. I also have cheap SoundPeats True Air 2 which are actually pretty nice for the price, but its case feels hollow and a bit cheap, the sound is a bit harsh, they don't handle bass that well even though it's fine and touch controls are way too sensitive to accidental touches, but they work fine and they were cheap. I didn't try any from other "better" brands because they all use silicone tips for in-ear design and I hate that so hard I'll never going to use them.

My honest opinion about AirPods is they are good for calls but not good for music. Even JBL is better for music and much cheaper.

When you would burst your bubble and look around, there are many models and bunch of better headphones manufactures.
Sennheiser sold its business, AKG was bought by Samsung and Philips ... Philips is downright joke.
Try KZ for fraction of the price or others.

Honestly, it's not a surprise that people are willing to spend more for the pro for the noise cancellation (Which was claimed to be one of the best noise-cancelling TWS out there). Plus, most of the retailers have discounted the price to $199 (Or even cheaper)

Most people seem to prefer wireless headsets or the pseudo wireless headset instead of those earbuds because headsets are more difficult to lose, have better battery, are more comfortable on the ears, those AirPods are just toys that were somewhat selling because of hype. Once the hype is gone, people see the reality and pay for true products.

Not surprising. They are unreasonably expensive, and made to be replaced.
Apple's recycling efforts for the lithium batteries in these are practivally zero, and people are also realizing that throwing these things away every 6 months is an environmental disaster.
