Weekly poll: would you pick the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G over its A-series siblings?

10 April 2022
The M53 is quite similar to the Galaxy A73 5G, but it should be cheaper.

Water-proof-moisture-sensitive phone sounds like another joke. Hopefully this is like any other issue, some users are just unlucky but still it's minority. User should have access to switch this sensor off. More technology, more problems.

Telling someone that they should have basic math knowledge (how to count) and that 2 is greater than 1 is not an insult, it's actually called educating someone.

Yuri84, 13 Apr 2022Many people forget it's THREE years for A52 already. F... moreIKR ! Then 4 years is just right period of support the way it is. Moreover, they only support faster SoC phones this way that should make it. So it definitely does make sense. Since I need all-rounder only, no need to chase max performance every 6 months and I've chosen right, I'll keep the phone for some time and see how it works.

5 years+ sounds little too much to me. As you said, at least screen and battery would need to retire! It's matter of taste and one's needs though. Well my mother has 6y old phone now (LCD, LTE). Using mostly for calls, messages and some snaps, but also little internet. Though limited for apps, otherwise works normally and no problem with battery, too.

I do remember fair phone. Interesting idea, but Idk if that could survive today's competition.

Me, I'd like to keep my phone for at least FIVE years. I'd keep it forever if it didn't get slower all the time and battery didn't die in the middle of the day (or was user-replace-able, like older phones were) and if screen didn't show clear signs of burn-in (the main issue is the drop of brightness). Having updates would be a nice bonus, some applications stop installing / updating if you don't update OS.

I've looked at "fair phone" but... when it removed the headphone jack (!!!!), it went the way of the russian warship (google it if you don't know).

My files are there, INSTANTLY! Works in airplane mode ANYWHERE and it doesn't drain your battery.
Please explain how having only ONE hard drive is better than having TWO?
How is 1 better than 2 ??! That's ELEMENTARY math dude! Go back to kindergarten and learn how to count! It's 2022!

Even if the hardware is perfect, with each update, the manufacturer will make sure that the phone lags so that the end user will upgrade again.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2022I dare you or anybody on this site to buy an A53 or an A73 ... moreUsually I don't use a phone for more than three years. But when I sell that phone or give it to someone to use it after that time, it makes a great difference whether the phone is supported with updates or not.
That's the reason why even used iPhones keep high price, also used "S" series keep high price. And with that all factors combined my phone is much cheaper than your "every-two-years-new-chinese-crap".

Also, SD card means INSTANT ACCESS to your data, no internet connection needed, and get this, it works anywhere on the planet.
Now run along and go get an iPhone, because clearly you're not into technology and programming.

Smart user, 10 Apr 2022Great quality brand gives you minimum 4 years of OS upgrade... moreThose who think 4 year updates is good are delusional. It means nothing, I don't update my phones (and they stay very well and nice for years).
I have a Samsung Note 4 still on 4.4.4 and the battery is still alive for some level where I can use Snotes to draw.
I'd rather pay less, get more and tolerate small issues with a Xiaomi or something else than get a Scamsung these days.
Notice I said I HAD Samsungs, but no more. I left crApple, then ScamSung, currently with the Chinese.

A52 5G and A52s have a headphone jack and are almost identical to A53, A73, M53. The main advantage of new phones is supposed to be... what, exactly? "Bigger, better, faster SoC"? Yet M53 doesn't have 120hz refresh rate. Does any of them record 4k at 60fps? As for camera, 108mp which is downscaled to 12mp compared to 64mp downscaled to 16mp is not really an improvement. It may have slightly better noise handling but nothing spectacular, IMO.

I'd recommend to get A52s / A52 5G to everyone who still uses a headphone jack.

                                      1. Chinese was, are and probably will be cheaper. You'll often get more for same money from some brands/models. At a first glance. However if you judge whole package (including SW support, company policies in China), often you don't get the same or in other words it's not worth it.
                                      2. Which $200 phone is 'better' and equals $400 Samsung phone? Same market, of course. Lol. And if you mean "let's grab the best SoC we can and put it in otherwise all aspects cheap phone", don't even bother.
Btw I voted none of these, too. Your statement is something else.

If it has a headphone jack, I'd buy one. The chipset is more than good enough for every day normal use. But since it doesn't, no thanks - I won't. I don't ever use dongles or wireless earbuds and I see no reason to do so.
