Weekly poll: would you pick the Samsung Galaxy M53 5G over its A-series siblings?

10 April 2022
The M53 is quite similar to the Galaxy A73 5G, but it should be cheaper.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2022I dare you or anybody on this site to buy an A53 or an A73 ... moreChinese brands need 20++ years to reach the same level as samsung in software support. Low quality phone gives short term software support.

The Ax3 line are still an upgrade over the Ax2 line (except for the removal of headphone jack). Maybe Samsung will release an A53S later this year as n upgrade for A52S.

I mean just look the kind of buggy support they give to their own Pixel phones. Google’s main goal is simply to collect data for their main business.

None of these are right for us - me and my A52s agreed on this.

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2022I dare you or anybody on this site to buy an A53 or an A73 ... moreRight in real life many people won't need 4 years of support. Still it's an advantage if it's provided, not meaningless. If you make a good choice, keeping one phone 2-3 years is real - well yes I plan to do so.Think of environment, too. We're already in big trouble. Add some time for buying later after released, picking new phone, or other circumstances - people are not all the same or buying product right now! LOL. My point is, 4 years of SW support IS the advantage generally. Personally I'm happy to have it! Note I'm NOT buying any of these phones here, then keeping it 4 years and I do understand it may be no good for some as well. (people switching phone every year, or using custom ROM instantly)

Anonymous, 10 Apr 2022I dare you or anybody on this site to buy an A53 or an A73 ... moreTotally agree. For half the Samsung price today, you can find phones with similar specs from different brands and 2 years from now, phones half the price of these Samsung phones will have much better capabilities while having the latest Android version out of the box (you can just imagine how late the update is going to be available for these 2 year old phones in the future, plus you'll probably have their battery replaced at least once, so that would be an additional cost.) But you could always do so much worse and get the iPhone SE 2022 (so you could have a battery replacement every year as you update the OS lol)

All companies (including Google) need to step up their game with Software Updates. No updates mean replacing phones more often = much higher environmental impact. If they cannot provide the updates, sell phones with stock Android or pay additional taxes for the impact caused.

The entire Ax3 series looks worse than the A52s, which remains the instant choice for a phone I'd recommend to friends in 2022. Unless and until there's a Snapdragon A53s, at least...

Hopefully they will go back to a more compact form factor with Galaxy A43.

Great quality brand gives you minimum 4 years of OS upgrades (Android 16) and beautiful UI.

Low quality brand only gives you 1-2 years of software upgrades and buggy UI.

I will be very surprise if many people, who will eventually buy one of this phones, will hold on to them for 4 years.
Still, people are always talking about this 4 years of software longevity like is some super big thing. Similar like Apple fanboys. Lol.
In reality very few people use the same phone for 4-5 years. Something will broke in that phone or you will just get bored of it, or you will just want to try something new that came out in some year, long before that software period finishes.

This is just part of the marketing campaign. Sadly, many people are falling for it. Not that is not true (even though few people will actually get to speak about this in 4 years), but is not necessarily relevant in buying a phone and start using it now.

So, let me guess, in your last 12 years you had only 3 phones? Lol.

                                2022 Samsung fail again

Great phone.. But i think the A53 will be the biggest phone this year! The A73 is possibly SLIGHTLY better with its zooming based on the 108mp cam..(but shocking to remove a 3x optical!).. basically these phones get 4 YEARS of Android up to Android 16.. you can't beat that!

I need to add that A series lower than the A33 i.e. A23, A13, A03 etc are following the 2 years OS and 4 years security policy too.

They should not have gotten rid of the headphone jack on any of the A or M series phones. A52s was a great midrange phone, A53 looks like a joke compared to it.

Voted "None..." because last year's A52s is still a better value for money than any of these three.
