Made in India (somehow I remember the legendary song in the 90's)

I read thru comments but the thousand dollar question is:- How much of this saving would be passed on to the customer?

Or is it just to save on costs and increase corporate profits?

Olympus Oms, 11 Apr 2022Will apple ever be American? Other than the brand name. Same could be applied for more or less everything in the world... Will Nike ever be American. Will Adidas ever be Herman. Big companies that employee people in 3rd world countries like India, Bangladesh to make their products for about 10p an hour

The company will save a crap ton of money in import taxes but the price will remain the same or even go higher for the consumer. Move on, nothing to see here.

Modest Mind, 11 Apr 2022Why doesn't Apple move 100% of its global production f... moreThere are a couple of reasons:

          1. China has the highest concentration of rare earth elements which are essential in producing these electronics. They have about 44,00,000 tons (44 million) in reserves whereas India has about 6,90,000 (6.9 million) tons and the US has about 1,50,000 (1.5 million) tons only. Vietnam has about 22,00,000 (22 million) tons which is why some smartphone companies have moved their factories to Vietnam.

          2. India's policies are mostly changed on the whims and fancies of the ruling party and some of them are quite antithetical to profit making. These days however, there is some normalcy and stability in their policy making with the current government.

          3. The wages that factory workers can earn in the US is way higher than what they earn in developing countries. Thus, Companies choose to manufacture their devices in these countries to make more profit. China's rise though has nullified some of that advantage which is why companies are moving their production to other countries like Vietnam.

There's other reasons as well but I don't want to type anymore on this tablet 😅

Why doesn't Apple move 100% of its global production from China to India or even to USA?
