There is memory ram inside sensor for speed. Same 10ms of the 12MP 1/1.65" they have for the 2021 phones.
Both will bet on same approach of nokia 808.

Z series had ability to downsampling like nokia 808.
8MP was just resized version of 20.7 and 23MP to hide noise.
Nothing more.
Curious to know if brands still make special firmware just for review unit. Firmware that retail units never get.

Quad bayer 48MP sensor could do 8K recording without a problem and most people prefer having smaller file size and better low light photos over stupid extra megapixels that they won't even appreciate 'cause of SNS compression.

Back then Xperia Z5 got the highest score among all smartphone cameras, dxomark wasn't open about what it would do in each test and never had any full resolution samples on its review page. When it started to become a more trustworthy website - more scoring subcategories, 100% unaltered samples, more photos to validate the points given to phones on each category - Xperia suddenly started to fail miserably. I must wonder why 🤔

Nothing really matters anymore with updates to the Xperia line, except whether not Sony is going to start providing four to five years of security updates like everyone else does now; and also provide updates on a proper monthly basis.
They are so far behind the industry. This is ridiculous for $1000+ phones. You can't expect people to spend that kind of money and have their phones be obsolete in two years.

If they still haven't fixed the massive throttling issue with the x5, it's junk. Last year's with sd 888 throttled like no tomorrow.

Xperia is notorious for using extremely slow shatter in its (enforced, cannot be disabled) auto night mode, but this time even that won't be able to save its noisy images since the pixels are so tiny.

So is Sony planning to improve its abysmal software update policy (2 years of OS updates AND general software updates)? Is it going to give us fully open Camera2API that can be used with GCAM? What about the DRM restriction that takes place as you unlock the bootloader, will it go away too?
Many other OEMs are providing at least 3 years of OS updates, so why can't Sony, that is asking just as much for its flagship as others, do the same?
