Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+ is postponed for the second half of 2022

06 May 2022
The main reason is the resurging COVID restrictions in China.

Good for them. I'd rather see phones coming a bit later than see yet another government treating it's people like disposable cattle and just letting them die to a preventable disease.

Also you can't overclock the 7 or 6 series Snapdragon over 900mhz where the S888 , you can clock them at 1200mhz too near 100+fps. don't care about power and torque, you're just a simpleton guy. Don't speak for others

D8100 is much better and can sustain its perfomance even though it use more power.

As of now seems like Cortex X1/X2 is one which made these soc bad, Any soc with cortex A78 perform better and use less power in sustained tasks.

Exynos 1080 is impressive even though it use Sammy manufacturing process.

Khodemamd, 06 May 2022What about cooling system? Sure BUT it needs more space and money wich means bigger, heavier, and more expensive phones.

We started seeing it with the Cortex-X1 heating a lot and it got worse with the Cortex-X2. Probably ARM's architecture already reached their roof.

Even the MediaTek 9000 made by TSMC heats a lot because that Cortex X2 core is fail and I don't see a Cortex X3 wich means that this problem will take a lot of time to be solved.

Snapdragon 8 gen 2 will hopefully be the solution

They need to find a new guy to deal with the product naming.

Whether a CPU has cores that run at 2.8ghz or 3.3ghz or whether the GPU has marginally quicker vram, it's irrelevant as games are never going to max out those specs. A Samsung S20 will handle the toughest applications and games as well as an S22. People only go for the latest and most expensive phones for novelty factor. There's no actual benefit because the very marginal, almost imperceptible gains in speed from one phone to it's successor is simply because the manufacturers have gone stale. They don't have any new ideas to revolutionize their phones and differentiate.

You need to admit xiaomi phones are cheaper to make than other brands, but still sold at same price out of Asia.

I dare you say the upcoming 12 Ultra is overproced at €1400 when hardware is cheaper than even iphone 13 pro.

We can say goodbye to the Nada phone, the Sony Xperia Mark 4 can still mount that soc because it would be coming out for those dates

That’s all fine and dandy, but what about the much anticipated Snapdragon 7 Gen 1??? In a previous GSMArena article, it was stated that the new 7-series chip would launch this month, along with the Snapdragon 8 Gen 1+. Does that mean that the Snapdragon 7 Gen 1 is also getting delayed? 😒

                                        What about cooling system?
