Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 unveiled: 30% more efficient, 10% faster

20 May 2022
The new chip keeps the hardware effectively the same, but the new 4nm process allowed for higher clock speeds and lower power draw.

Every time a new chipset launches, it always says about efficient. But if we comparison, every flagship smartphone is not capable of having a battery life of up to 2 days for normal use without playing games

77, 22 May 2022My Sony Pro-i, is rooted and from 900mhz, it's gone up... moreYes your so right. Thank you for that. I did root a few phones in the past. And yes. Its like the phone goes into hyper speed.

A15 is appalling for gaming BTW. Your so much better with either a gaming phone or a gaming phone that is rooted even. Personally I haven't rooted my K50G. I feel not the need yet. But I am blown away with the performance. The GPU is one mighty monster. Can never seem to hit the ceiling with it. And the CPU is so powerful with its extra bandwidth memory wise. That the extra 20% Cache over the A15 compensates for the lesser CPU benchmark...

I wouldn't be underestimating the 8 Gen 1 at all. But really I think it's designed for gaming phones. Otherwise its a bit of waste to use it in a standard flagship from my point of view. Unless you have a dslr strapped to the back of the phone...

On a phone with 800 mah battery, thats excellent, if the battery size is like a lorry strapped to our back then not much benefit anyway.

Anonymousse, 22 May 2022Yes, 870 and 865 are the best chips from Qualcomm. You know why 870 and 865 was better right, both were fabricated by TSMC. The 888 and 8 gen 1 was both fabricated by Samsung. It seems there's almost a pattern emerging. Every time Samsung fabricates Qualcomm chips they always have throttling issues on their chips set, compared to TSMC.

I have the 8 Gen 1 Processor in my K50G E-sports Edition handset. For me. It's really good. When I game. I usually use the official case with the mag cooler. It never throttles with those on. And even without... The thermals are very good thanks to the phome itself.

Now... As an 8 Gen 1 user. Most of you probably don't own one. And probably have jumped on the hype train. - Here is a video. Showing you that the GPU is pretty much about twice better than the A15...

And just because the single core and multi core score maybe be slightly less than the A15. Well... It's memory bandwidth is 20% more than the A15.

The K50G with a 300% faster memory read speed is really something. The ram frequency is quicker than the A15...

The 8 Gen 1 is an amazing processor. Really it should only be for gaming phones... And when it is... I can assure you it's better than any gaming on the A15.... Any day.

Increasing efficiency is a lie. There has been no real improvement in electrical efficiency of components that are used - it only seems that way because of the reduction in node process size.
