Qualcomm Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 unveiled: 30% more efficient, 10% faster

20 May 2022
The new chip keeps the hardware effectively the same, but the new 4nm process allowed for higher clock speeds and lower power draw.

>30% more efficient
You realize that they are literally doing the *exact* thing you are telling them to do?
Obviously efficiency is the main concern and obviously that is what they are trying to improve.

All about efficiency, but till now every flagship smartphone never has a good durability screen on time.. We need real flagship with more efficient and have good long life durability from screen on time.. Or make huge battery on flagship

how about thermals? is this much cooler than previous sd8gen1

There is no meaning Chip performance going up when company Manufacturer could not find way to control the heat. Every Qualcomn Snapdragon Chip in a phone is underclocked so that it doesn't burn inside. Cooking solution should be sleek and effective before we go further on counting more efficient more faster. Buying a $1000 smartphone with 8+ chip doesn't mean it has all door open company also knows it is impossible with current tech to give a proper solution for thermal management.

Anonymous, 21 May 2022yess apple is smart they know phone cooling will evolve usi... moreIncase anyone can't recognize this as nonsense:

OLED screen burn in tends to be when the green subpixels wear out and no longer produce as much light as the red and blue subpixels. The result is a magenta glow (R+B light without green = magenta) where the green pixel are worn giving a shadow of whatever imagine is "burned" in.

It has absolutely nothing to do with CPU heat, but the limited durability of the one set of subpixels.

You all shouldn't even be allowed to have smartphones.

The Snapdragon 870 is still the most efficient chipset still in the market. The Snapdragon 8 Gen 1, Snapdragon 888 and Snapdragon 888+ failed in being more efficient than the 870.

Yes the 865 is more efficient than the 870 but very barely. They traded off it's very little efficiency for more power but it didn't significantly affect the 870 and it was very acceptable.
