21 May 2022

Samsung is much better. Why? Very user friendly interface. Greatly improved support. Powerful specs. More features. Better camera. And so on.

If % was much higher, Apple would be making way more money because costs would easily be $100 less per unit at least.

The Flip, 21 May 2022This practice has been going on for over two to three decad... moreYes that is true, most companies have their facilities in China for manufacturing but with a little exception that they have their own factories to make their stuff unlike Apple, that outsources parts, and everything else from other companies. Sensors from Sony, for example, and display from Samsung or BOE and so on. Thus, almost everything inside the iPhones is actually manufactured by someone else and Apple just does the software part on their own. That makes apple the only company to be fully reliant on others to make their hardware. Even the phone assembly is done by some contractor to do that for them. But yes they're slowly moving away from that dependency and eventually will find some other country to manufacture their products

Anonymous, 21 May 2022Apple won't manufacture anything in their own country ... moreThis practice has been going on for over two to three decades already. Nike is an American company that did this back in the 80s. Made in the USA died out by the early-90s. The last product I owned that was made in the USA was my Atari Jaguar (1993).

I remember when Sony manufactured their PS1 and PSP, they were Made in Japan. Then they started making them in China. The second PS1 I bought, 9001 model, was made in Mexico. Samsung phones aren't all made in South Korea either. My S7 edge was made in Vietnam. Nokia started having their phones made in China instead of Finland over 15 years ago.

Looks to me India will become the new China for cheap labor.

They pay a premium for it and BOE tried to change it without even telling Apple. Still greedy here ? No, just business as usual ... Contracts exists for this. :-)

Thats just stupid. For one thing trying scam cheaper prices out of everyone when you make more profit than anyone else just shows their level of greed.
But also that was stupid on boe's end to make that change without addressing Apple. How could they not know that would anger apple of all companies let alone most companies.
Unless the change was less problematic than it seems but Apple will still be upset just on the principle.

And then again another stupid part on Apple would be to eliminate them instead of working with them to correct it when you want to lesson your dependence on others and bargin cheaper.

BOE at the end will give the design (with changes) to other manufacturers inside China to freely sell it.

But then Apple won't no longer trust in them.

Maybe is the 1st step to get the full independency from Chinese

That's a very positive development. Resources are too valuable to be wasted on vanity toys. Apple Corp. takes up the limited capacity of parts manufacturers so that sincere phone makers can't get parts.
