Rising inflation and component shortages are to blame.

If we all did a company like Samsung would be selling around two billion smartphones every year. Most people hang on to a phone for 3-4 years, so, compare an S22 with an S10 and you'll notice a decent amount of differences.

Like someone else also said, this is them reducing their targets based on geopolitics, not last year's design.

SShock, 27 May 2022Why was there even a need to make it smaller? 6,1" or ... moreTo make it more compact, phones have been getting really big, that 0.1" is visible in real life because they also changed the aspect ratio and reduced the bottom bezel, just check the dimensions of your XR, despite the display being about the same 6.1" size, it's bigger than the S22 because of it's bezels.
The Galaxy S22 is about the same size as iPhone 13 and 13 Pro.

I'm not surprised, every year they release almost exact same phone as last year.
Tell me the huge, read carefully, HUGE difference between Galaxy A52s and Galaxy A53. Literally nothing, even the chipset is worse.
S21 & S22 are almost the same except design and maybe few micro camera upgrades.
Not to mention removing chargers from the box AND earphones.
I love Samsung, i really do but their marketing thinking is non-sense. They will loose even more fans & buyers if they keep it up with the trends.

I'm on iPhone XR which is 6,1" and it's about what I'd consider good size these days. Why make S22 smaller than S21 !? That 0,1" of a difference wouldn't matter, but it matters with battery capacity, especially if you use rubbish chipset like Exynos 2200.

I guess no one wants to buy nerfed Exynos Galaxy S22 models or the rubbish Exynos Galaxy A53 models. Samsung did the right thing bringing back glass backs on S22 models, but screwed up chipsets and smaller battery for whatever silly reason. Galaxy A53 is a joke, its Exynos chipset is terrible and it costs more than old A52s model. Being new, it should at least match older A52s, but it doesn't at all.

That's how you lose sales if you release rubbish badly thought out models.

There is no bullshit plateau of development. Just lame excuse of someone that does not know how tech world is.

Companies have many different projects. But only those ones they judge valuable from some points of view become final version. Main point is retail price.

Imagine how much would cost if phones like S22 Ultra, Find X5 Pro or 1iv if they had samsung QD-oled screen instead of current oled.
Imagine how much more phone would cost if all rear cameras had glass lenses (all elements) and xenon flash.
Imagine price of using true wireless charging.

Without all this we already see phones that cost over $650 to be made and are sold for over $1300. Now add these stuff and other more they could offer.

The new SoC, slightly larger battery, more nits, more hertz and more megapixels yearly update is choice. Not lack of possibility of doing more.

Yeah. Blame to war and inflation! Excuses.

The main reason is that other brands are giving better specs and chipset for lower price that samsunk.
