For me, it's better to carry 2 or more phone if I had more than 1 simcard, just for backing up while the battery running low on 1 phone

In India, earlier there were many new small operators who provided cheaper plans but lacked coverage when compared to incumbent operators. So people had multiple sims and needed multi-sim devices. But, now the operators have shrinked from 12 to just 4 in a decade and nowadays, most carriers have implemented mandatory recharging for receiving incoming calls even the trend of dual sim has started to fade away in India.

Well initially when cell phones where newer most people that had cell phones where business men/ women that traveled for work or worked in a trade like plumbing or construction so it was useful to have multiple card slots for multiple regions or countries.

I have used a quad sim phone LG A395...
And I am ready to pay 300$ or more to get an Android based phone with 5000mah battery with a screen size lower than 6inches, triple or quad Sim.
It will rock the South Asian market.
Every 3rd or 5th guy uses a quad Sim phone here to reach out customers & enjoy the network to network privileges in terms of $$$.
I still don't get it why no one thinks about this.

No 3rd mobile OS needed. If you think about Windows then no. Windows is only great for computers/laptops.

Physical SIM will be always better than e-SIM
e-SIM is probably one step away from being a unique ID for following your device around.
As for how much, I think Dual SIM is good enough. One SIM for calls and another one for mobile data.
