People really want AOD on a phone this much? I understand on a watch where I also wanted AOD, but I really don't need it on my phone. If I absolutely need to see I don't know, time on my phone I just ask it to tell me the time or just say "Hey Siri" and not follow up with anything, just so it activates the display. If I can't physically poke the display that is. Otherwise I just tap the display and see the time. Or it wakes up on its own as I raise the phone.
Also AOD on most phones is pretty bad power wise because most phones that support AOD don't actually support refresh rate below 60Hz or it's some weird AOD where you still need to tap the display which defeats the purpose of AOD. I bet Apple will do it properly with low 1Hz refresh and dedicated super low power chipset logic to keep AOD running with super low power consumtpion. After all, they have the LTPO displays and own chipset to do it.
