Apple WWDC 2022: what to expect

05 June 2022
This event is focused mainly on software - iOS and iPadOS 16, macOS 13, watchOS 9 and more. We might see some hardware too, but that is unlikely.

While I doubt there will be any micro led display for phones, qd-oled could be the future for flagships, probably have to wait until 2025 for iPhone with qd-oled though

I was actually surprised they didn't use XR's design as the SE model for 2022. It would actually make a great SE phone. It's now old enough and basic enough to easily qualify yet it would still be a great device. Single camera and LCD display would totally separate it from the rest of modern iPhones that now have OLED displays. Sure XR isn't as compact as Mini or SE, but it's really a compact phone by current size standards. Plus battery is way better and display has much more of actual usable surface. And notch would be another differentiation from latest models if the pill/punch hole thing is actually true. If next SE is going to be another iPhone 8 rehash, Apple really lost it with SE model.

iPhone SE Plus with 5.8" or 6.1" display powered by A15 Bionic would be sick.

Anonymous, 05 Jun 2022Apple forces will keep forcing users to buy Apple Watch jus... moreWhat are you even babbling about? Apple Watch has AOD since Apple Watch 5. And AOD is kinda needed on a watch because one without it looks and actually is pretty stupid. Phone on the other hand, I honestly couldn't care any less if it has AOD or not. I had notification LED on older phones which I thought was a nice feature, but I'm almost 4 years now without one and I do just fine. I know I'm not going to get AIOD on phone because mine still has LCD. And I'm sure a lot of iPhone 13 non-Pro and 12 users don't care either.

rOS will be the big thing tomorrow

iPhone 13's with LTPO displays will get the AOD for sure. So, 13 Pro and 13 Pro Max. Mostly because you kinda need LTPO type OLED to achieve it. It probably won't be as efficient as iPhone 14's with new A16 Bionic because it'll for sure have a dedicated AOD logic, but still.

Doing AOD on display that needs to refresh entire panel to change 50 pixels is just a bad idea. Same goes for panels that can only go as low as 60Hz (or simply run at that continuously). But you know, we'll see tomorrow.

Interested in WatchOS new power saving mode to see how many things it can still run in it.

The big thing will be the rOS for the developers and the future of VR/AR

                            IPhones 13.1 🤪

AR world will definitely get bigger, object recognition to use AR should be useful also on phone screens, not just headsets. TV sticks got also second breath. Now even Microsoft is on the way.
