Rumor: the Snapdragon 8 Gen 2 will have a very unusual 1+2+2+3 CPU configuration

09 June 2022
The SM8550 chip will allegedly feature a mix of new cores (Cortex-X3 and A720) and old cores (A710 and A510).

Why do they keep increasing performance, phones chips are way too powerful for what a mobile phone needs, just make it more efficient and able to hold peak performance. Another 30% of performance when the chip is throttling like mad and 90% of people never come close to using the full power of the chip anyway (a snapdragon 855 would still be more than plenty). Getting caught up in the bs with apple needing the fastest chip when at this point makes 0 difference now.

    Saw this 2 months ago.
    And X3 uses more power than core X2.

    8g2 = 4nm tsmc
    8g3 = 3 nm tsmc

      8 gen 3 will be the true succesor to 865

        Anonymous, 09 Jun 2022okay, so even worse battery life, well done!!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻 Huh, more powerful CPUs mean they need to draw more power for them to work which means they use up more battery? Who would've thought.

          If that will solve the thermal issues from the current 8 Gen 1/1+ and also from the 888/888+, this would be a great news. As much as I'm still loving the 865, 865+, and 870 trio, it's about time they got a truly worthy successor.

            PepperPot, 09 Jun 2022Honestly, this is becoming eerily similar to DBZ. The powe... moreSoon enough the battery will decrease in size from 5000 to 4000 then to 3000. but we will get 3 days (40 hours SOT) with 3000 mAH.

              Useless power. Efficiency is the key nowadays, not the power.

                Anonymous, 09 Jun 2022Why use A710 if A711 cores is better than A710 in all way,And what are they going to throw at you in the next year? hahaha

                      Honestly, this is becoming eerily similar to DBZ. The power numbers keep increasing to a point where it just doesn't mean anything.

                      Where is the innovation in power and battery efficiency or are just gonna throw a 5500 mah cell at all our problems.

                        Very unusual.
                        I have very high hopes for this.

                          So, 2023 will be another year with flagships battery rating around 70-80 hours.

                          Probably will be accompanied by an even quicker charging tech so that the battery will be useless after around a year of usage.

                          Also consider that due to inefficient testing we might be (un)lucky enough to get another 808 / 810 fiasco or parte failing / melting due to the overheating (Redmi K30 Pro I'm talking to you)

                            Hope this ain't another oven in disguise

                                  oh no.. cortex x3.. its gonna be worse than x2. i hope samsung wont fabcriate this...
