Weekly poll results: flat AMOLED displays with high refresh rates strongly preferred

12 June 2022
There is no clear consensus on the best resolution - FHD+ is slightly more popular than QHD+, but both options have many proponents.

Healthyheart, 12 Jun 2022Dear, the reason is natural colours and no flickering issue... moreNatural colors are easily achievable with OLED too. And flickering issues? Even LCD have it.

You started a debate between oled and lcd. I've used both. Never faced any issues. Burn in? Never faced one. You don't look at your wallpaper for several days. You use your phone. And you don't set the brightness to maximum. But amoled has miles better colors. Amoled has anyways on display. And the information that it isn't durable is wrong.

KL118, 12 Jun 2022Many Amoled Phones, TV and Monitors has survived > 5 yea... moreWTF are you talking about?! 😳 Read again my question 🤦🏻‍♂️

"High refresh rate is essential now. Most prefer 120Hz, which is the sweet spot"
In other shocking news: water is wet! Who could've imagined?!

Jokes aside, once you get a good taste of 120hz, it is very hard to go back to 60hz. I've been using 120hz refresh rates for around a decade now (since they appeared in TN monitors) and to me, console games look like quick slide show at 30 fps, it is unbearable to watch. 60 is beatable, 120 is fluent.

Hopefully 500hz will not make me unable to play at 120hz, but it will definitely make 60hz look awful :D

"Compared to a similar poll we ran a year ago, the importance of QHD+ has risen"

When we had 1440p screens since note 4 from 2014, I think it's really obvious we start missing this.
Maybe there are people out there, like me, who'd take 1440p 60 frames all the time, and is still consumes much much less than 1080p 120.
Oh and I don't know why, but my old s8 lasts more on 1440p than 1080p, weird, right?
Removing 1440p from all except ultra flagships is a BS marketing. Period.
ESPECIALLY now when we have >6.4" displays! If I can see the difference on a 5.8" screen, imagine on those giants!
I was expecting 4k on these ~7" bricks, but I guess we go BACKWARDS actually.
Oh and about curved screens. I wouldn't have missed them if we finally had great ones like on s20 series.
I guess I really have to go with s21/s22 ultra for 1440p resolution again...

And last, OLED vs IPS. I would take IPS, because newer OLED screens age really bad in terms of burn in. If you use them at decent brightness, no problem. If you need to use the maximum brightness all the time, good luck on that...

blue, 12 Jun 2022So many years to prove the technology good, and still some ... moreDear, the reason is natural colours and no flickering issue in LCD.
I suffer headaches in a short time whenever I use OLED equipped device.

For some, it is a must to choose LCD. They are sensitive to the drawbacks of AMOLED technology.

Looks like the voters aren't pwm sensetive like me. I suffer from it every day. Got 1 time eye surgery because of redness and dryness.Still miss a good Ips display on a flagship.

I mean, the issue key is not preference, of course everyone prefers better, faster screens... the question should be... in exchange of what?

Do I want 120hz? Sure. In exchange of shit battery? no way. In exchange of no dual band gps, bloatware, minimal software support or a virtual proximity sensor? No, thanks, 60 is fine.

So many years to prove the technology good, and still some OLED haters remain stuck in the deep past.
One best example, why OLED is better - Apple. They never accept bad technology.

Maybe because in a way oled over took lcd or because oled is considered the newer and better tech. So it's been replaced already. So now the replacer is being replaced. Duh?

Not to mention micro led is the combination of both so it is indeed replacing both.....DUH!!??
