Rumor: HTC M7 to use stacked sensor with ultrapixels

04 February, 2013
The image sensor will be like Sigma's Foveon X3 with three light-sensing layers stacked on top of each other.

i think a micro SD port that supports up to 64GB is a more important feature than a better camera

i expect htc m7 to be a blockbuster specd and innovative device, after watching htc chairman screaming 'm7..m7...m7'.htc managed such technology, thats fantastic, but not incredible since pureview has become the trademark now...as soon as it releases into wild it will be put to torture by 808 and upcoming eos..,m7 must be something more.i hope htc to really come upto my expectations.

Striker, 04 Feb 2013It's nice to follow the leader(Nokia). Unlike Samsung, HTC ... moreagree on the samsung part but htc doesn't invent anything either, this is not their sensor...

It's nice to follow the leader(Nokia). Unlike Samsung, HTC at least tries to be innovative and actually invent something, not to copy all.

I really hope HTC put a bigger battery on this one and not focus on making it ultra thin.

its htc...not excited...poor camera performance amongst droids.Still remember last year they boast about their image chip or something but the end result is not impressive at all!

"This is somewhat similar to what Nokia did with PureView Phase 1 (the Nokia 808) - the sensor there still uses a Bayer matrix, but thanks to the huge resolution of the sensor, each pixel in the final image is the result of “super sampling” several sensor pixels (so you get at least one real color reading per pixel)."

Knowing the limitations of lenses and small pixels, this is a very uneconomic way to do it.
Not to say Foveon approach doesn't have any weaknesses, like high ISO performance.
