The PS5/XSX was a considerable jump from their previous gens too. So it'll definitely skip 5 and maybe 6 depending how much improvement is made in the next 8 years.

They got PCI 7, I thought we were still on 4 in general consumption and maybe 5 for early adopters.

That is why even a new higher specs announced most manufactures still use the previous tech for some time until the market is really ready for the new one.

Hemedans, 22 Jun 2022This thread is not speed of storage though, its controller/... moreI know, but the guy asked the difference between the interface of PCI 7 and the one that the last generation consoles have (PCI 4), so it doesn't make much sense to calculate the unified bandwidth, any old generation with unified memory It will be much faster than the new PCI 7 that will be released in 2027

Unless they just go for it. Microsoft can for sure skip them all and get the 7 even if its pricey cus its new. While sony is too poor to take the chance so theyll go for 5 or maybe even a 6.

Took 5 years to implement it that too much.
I bet US Army and agencies like CIA, NID and many else will use this long time before it comes to the public.

OhNom, 22 Jun 2022That is the speed of memory, not storage, these are the sto... moreThis thread is not speed of storage though, its controller/system bandwidth
And for system like Apple, ps5, Xbone etc which use unified memory they use ddr/Gddr memory. One pin latest ddr memory can go over 20GBps when you include all pins/chanell you get total Bandwidth which can Exceed even 1TB/ps (like Rtx 3090ti.)
Apple latest M1 series has like 16 32bit chanell (512bit bus) those are lot of pins there, thats why we got 400GBps even though they use older lpddr4x ram.
Xbone series x has just 320bit bus but has faster lpddr5 memory hence got 560GBps bandwidth.

I/O PERFORMANCE
xbox series x
2.4 GB/s (uncompressed data) and 4.8 GB/s (compressed data)
PlayStation 5
5.5 GB/s (uncompressed data) and up to 9 GB/s (compressed data)
They both use PCI 4, so with PCI 7 they should achieve 8 times that speed
And, you must remember that what the table and the article talk about is the theoretical maximum in the best possible scenario, and in reality it is never reached, at least I have not seen any case
