35mm-16mm generally is considered wide angle, 16mm or less is ultra wide, 35mm-80mm is standard and anything above 80mm is telephoto/macro depending on the lens.

I really don't care for portrait lenses, just gimme this setup (main, ultrawide, periscope). This phone is a no buy

First time I see they start to use proper focal length like in cameras. 50mm is wide not portrait. This should be the main cam in every smartphone.
People wrongly get used to wider and wider but it's not good.

35mm is a good focal length photography wise but its very nice to have an optional 14-20 mm - even mediocre - ultrawide cam alongside it. People are very used to it too, by now.

The idea is good though: Main cams should actually have 28-40mm focal length. Main cams often are too wide. I see people cropping all the time everywhere afterwards. THis is bad.
Most shots people take with main cam actually are not UW, and when you need very wide shot; every phone has ultrawide cam 12-16 mm.

I dont get these 23mm main cams (S22 ultra here)

"We are not so sure how well the lack of ultrawide camera will sit with potential users, though." Potential users will be fine without an ultrawide lens, you could easily just get a Moment ultrawide lens if you needed one. The real question is whether the 85mm telephoto will be a weak-specced periscope lens or a decent secondary telephoto like the Xperia 1 IV

The 3 Focal lengths for people photography.
35 mm - for full length with backgrounds
50 mm - for Head & Shoulder shots
85 mm - For face portraits.

Although I am fine with a lack of ultra wide, 35mm is often not wide enough, a 24-28mm next to the 35 would be nice, it seems close, but every mm difference in focal length makes a difference.

If this teaser is for the frontier with the 200mp hp1 sensor, then it's going to require a massive bump for the 35mm equivalent lens, and from the leaks, the aperture seems smaller too.

You could make it 2000mp sensor, and it would still be nonsense, until the public are willing to put up with bigger lenses and bigger humps, whatever sensor is used will still be massively compromised by the tiny amount of light that can be gathered by tiny lenses, especially when compared to dslr's etc.
More light would mean better pics with less processing needed, less chip use, longer battery life.
Optics etc has come on leaps and bounds ,but there is still no beating the basic physics of small lens, small capability ..

Probably they will use 35mm with 200mp hp1 sensor and crop in to 50 and 85mm..
Question is, if the 35mm will be real or not (already cropped from some shorter focal lenght, considering 35mm lens and 1/1.2" would be already too huge)?

They aren't unusual focal lengths if you come from SLR prime lenses.

35mm for street, 50mm for waist + head portrait, 85mm for headshot.

Will love to see aperture for these lenses.

No uw isn't an issue. I've always found a good telephoto more useful. Availability lately is the usual issue with them.

No uw camera, slight zoom with 200mp would be good only if other camera is big sensor too.
                            I would go with 12mm, 35mm, 85mm, 240+mm if I could choose.

Lol, this is threatening my cameras.
My EDC is an old Fuji x100s which is 35mm eq. My most used lenses, 35mm and 50mm on apsc covers 50ish and 85ish (with a bit of crop). Irrespective of the quality difference, I may get lazy.
Hope it's very expensive so that I'm not tempted 😂

If this is priced well and well optimised, I will get one even though I do not really need it.
I just love to try new tech.
Unless I got engaged by then.....
