rizki1, 07 Jul 2022Made in China most components from Asia... processor, displ... moreNothing wrong with made in China but most Chinese people when given the option between the same phone with a Samsung screen and BOE would still choose the Samsung one. BOE screens have improved a lot though in the last couple of years. They used to use a different pixel arrangement that Chinese people called the 'Zhou dongyu' pixel arrangement which looks like a duck's eyes and beak. These screens were much less sharp than Samsung screens with Samsung's pixel arrangement. That gave them a bad reputation in China a couple of years ago as they were inferior at that time. However, BOE has since developed a new pixel arrangement and their more recent screens are much improved with this new pixel arrangement. Honor is using these screens on their 60, 70 and magic 3 and magic 4 series. BOE's new oled screens often support high frequency 1920Hz pwm dimming too which should help users who are sensitive to screen flicker on Oled screens and is an advantage of certain BOE screens. I think the new BOE screens should be close in quality to Samsung ones.

"BOE's role in the iPhone 14 supply chain was in doubt for a few weeks after Apple discovered that BOE unilaterally changed some design elements of its iPhone 13 panels. For a while the Chinese display maker was in hot water, but the tide has apparently turned now, and BOE will go on to supply Apple for its upcoming products."
This assumes The Elec's original report was even true. If anything is in doubt right now it would be the reporting from The Elec.

Users of chineses phones get so mad because iphone has higher cost to be made than chinese flagships, but they deny based on reading specs. LOL !!!
Go see BoM of 13 pro max 1000GB near $700. While chinese phones barely pass $400.

SShock, 07 Jul 2022Because Chinese's phones whole "personality"... moreThe reason why Apple has several suppliers for the display is that they order in big numbers and a single display manufacturer wouldn't be able to supply all the necessary units, and Apple wouldn't have done so if it didn't need to.
To have multiple sources for the same components is what other companies do as well when they expect certain products to sell a lot, not to mention they also have their own sets of quality control guidelines to make sure what they receive from the display manufacturers are up to their own standards, regardless of whether single-sourced or not.

1) Apple buys too many units and get better price than other would manage to get.
2) Samsung gets in-house discount
Also , the design of iphone screen makes it even more expensive. The one used by 12 was more expensive than the QHD 120Hz used by S20. Near $90.

Do you think Apple buys of the shelf components like all the Chinese phone makers? They don't come to BOE and get a selection of 3 different panels and they just pick one. They come to BOE and tell them what kind of panels they want. And BOE makes them for them with those exact specifications. Same with Samsung and LG, Corning and bunch of other suppliers. It's why iPhones cost more even when they (on paper) look worse. And why they also still perform exceptionally well even when they don't look great on paper. Like all the LCD panels that everyone is complaining so much how they are "so last decade" all while often beating most AMOLED panels and have exceptional blacks despite being LCD displays. Because Apple didn't just pick some crap, they told supplier exactly what they wanted and also got that. And they always demand great characteristics from suppliers.

Good to see them sticking with 6.1" size. It's the "compact" size of today with all the ridiculous phones closing in to 7" sizes...
