SShock, 10 Jul 2022Wow, you heard about Pegasus once in mainstream media and a... moreNope. Not just once, have come across many incidents where people have shared their experiences of their very secure iDevices getting compromised. Pegasus was just one of it. So that just makes one thing clear that any phone can be hacked, an iPhone isn't anything secure than an android comparatively

SShock, 10 Jul 2022It's not even that hard. Google could easily set ultim... moreThe reason they won’t do that is because of the AOSP nature of Android means anyone can use it really, all Google can do is exert pressure over access to Goole Play services. And they do to a degree, but Google don’t want to push too hard as ultimately they make more money the more people have access to their services. And I think the oem’s are well aware of this.

So Google and it’s oem partners have this messy symbiotic relationship. Goole need as many devices in the wild with access to their services, preferably through Android, but anything will do as evidenced by the degree of support their services enjoy on the likes of iOS. And the oem’s need an established platform for their devices to run on, in the hopes of selling as many of those devices as possible as frequently as possible. They cannot touch iOS for obvious reasons, and getting their own platforms of the ground would be a costly, time intensive and very risky endeavour, so Android it is.

So both are doing the best they can to muddle through with what are two at times opposing business models, Google would like the oem’s to support devices for longer, the oem’s just want to sell hardware. the result is the situation Android has always been in, one of fragmentation and inconsistent support.

And despite what that Grey Wolf kid said, I’m not laughing at that, I just see it as the logical result given the facts at play.

So let me get this straight, like a simpleton you write off everything I say as nothing more than the opinion of a fanboy, then proceed to say pretty much the same thing I said anyway….you all there pal? 🤷

Whilst I agree Apple likes money, that really should go without saying, they are under no obligation to share their own ip with anyone. Their business model though is no better or worse than anyone else’s, just different and one they exert a greater degree of control over, like all the rest really really really wish they could do.

You only take a pi** at it because it's LCD, not even knowing HOW good LCD it is. And you clearly don't know it's one of the best LCD's there is and PPI isn't even the important factor. 326 PPI is sufficient enough for its size that it just doesn't matter anymore, but the colors are amazing and it manages to achieve such blacks I'm still amazed an LCD can do that where you can hardly differentiate black bars from black bezel of the display. Not once I had legibility issues under even extreme sun. Yes, you only know big numbers and buzz words as evident from your ridiculous naming of AMOLED like it means anything. "Quad super HD AMOLED". I'm surprised you didn't add "mega" and "quantum" to it as well. All of a sudden even use of "Liquid Retina" seems less offensive and I actually never use it. I just call it what it is, an IPS LCD.

Google could easily set ultimatum, either you offer OS updates for minimum 3 years or you can't use our platform. They already have rules in place and alternative is Huawei's path. You can be sure no one wants to go that route because it would be terrible for them just like it is for Huawei. I just have no clue WHY Google doesn't do that. It would be the single most effective way to do it and excuse that this would drive up costs is just BS and I just know they'll use this as an excuse to inflate prices. How about releasing less devices so you don't have to spend bazillions to maintain all those 300 devices you release every single bloody year?

For them, the best display is only the Retina display, or the best processor is the "apple processor", without understanding what these things even are and how other displays in comparison are better. Anything with an apple logo automatically is better than others.

You probably are unaware that your iPhone XR still has an ancient LCD display with a lowly 300 PPi. But sure, I don't understand numbers on my flagship phone with Quad HD Super amoled display with over 500 ppi and a camera setup far better than the ancient xr

I can say for example that Google created Android, then release it for other companies to use it as they pleased. Why doesn't it Apple do something like that with IOS?
I am seing Apple as a totalitarian regime. They don't want to share anything with anybody else.

As for the software part. Do you think they tend to give software updates for longer periods because they magically care about their customers? No, they care about the money of their customers. Because everything that is important in IOS is with subscription or with money. So, they want as much years as possible on their customers wallets.
So, your laughing at Android companies because they tend to want profit from hardware part. But Apple is equally guilty, doing the same, but from the software part. They take money from services and so on.

Bottom line, they are both equally bad. If anything Apple is worse, because they k*ll the competition by their business model. Actually they don't want any competition. Something like what Facebook, Twitter and the big consortiums are doing.

SShock, 10 Jul 2022No one EVER claimed something is 100% secure because claimi... moreGoogle have always faced an uphill battle in trying to get oem’s to tow the line with Android. The problem is that Android is Google’s baby, it’s a valuable revenue stream for them. To oem’s though, it’s just an os they can easily throw into products. Sure they may tinker to make it look like something that’s unique, but at least they don’t have to go to all the hassle and expense of building a mobile os from the ground up, not an easy thing to do just ask the likes of Samsung and Microsoft.

Ultimately though, Android does little for oem’s, they make their money from the hardware running it. So it’s makes more sense for them to get consumers to buy that hardware more frequently. Reliably supporting existing hardware for extended periods of time is kind of counter productive to this goal.

Apple hough have found themselves in the enviable position of being able to make money from both the hardware and software, through services running on it, with those being services that actually appeal and generate revenue.

So for Apple it makes sense to both support existing hardware for as long as possible for those that like to keep products for as long as possible. And create new products for those who like to frequently upgrade, they make money either way.

And the anti Apple crowd should probably make no mistake, this is a position all the Android oem’s spends their nights wishing they were in, it’s one Google and Samsung have tried desperately over recent years to get themselves in, to varying but far lesser degrees of success.

This I think is probably the main reason that despite Google’s best efforts, we still see that inconsistency in Android support from oem’s. This is why you’ll see the likes of Motorola and Xiaomi, Oppo etc put out far more device variants per year than they ever will software updates for those devices. They don’t make any money from issuing ‘security updates’ to existing products, but hoping you’ll buy the successor / latest variant of said device with that latest software…..cha ching!

I am expecting some new colors in the iPhone 14 vanilla version. In this way, people who will buy the iPhone 14 will not feel so bad that they are buying just a more expensive iPhone 13.
iPhone 14 future customer: "Ohh, look, it come in that new color! Yeah, definitely worth it."
                      Lol.

I remember when iPhone XR came out. People on YouTube were actually making hours and hours of content just on this issue alone. Women and babies were crying, men stop working. The World just stood still. Lol. People didn't know what iPhone XR color will gonna buy.
That will tell you everything you need to know about the average mind of an Apple customer.
Wink wink, is not a positive thing.

If Google was still using QC modems - I would get a Pixel. OnePlus would be an option except for software issues.

Android has become so fragmented - nearly all want their one software engineer to create and maintain a skin that they then have no intention of keeping up to date etc.

Apple locks down ios so really the only way to have some integration is buying a Mac and MacOS is the worst OS possible for general use. Just moving music files is a pita.

But delivering updates timely and for long does help to lower the chance of security issues. And Apple is simply very good at that. Now granted, Android has certain parts done better, like how most system apps can be updated via app market, like WebView component, however that only goes as far. In a lot of cases that's just slapping a bandaid on a headshot wound and you just need a full on OS update to actually fix the issue. And you just don't get that in most cases because of how lazy Android phone makers are and system updates entirely depend on their willingness to deliver the said updates.

If Android phone makers would step up at least to level of Samsung and I'd be delighted and would gladly use Android phones. But I just can't because most are just horrible in this regard. What's weird is how users don't demand them to step up and neither does Google. They give them license to use Google stuff on their phones, how hard is it to demand things like updates longevity and demand security updates to actually be delivered to users in timely fashion? Google could demand all this as part of companies using Google's ecosystem, yet they just aren't doing that. WHY?!
