Anonymous, 17 Jul 2022Mi 12S ultra is the current king.
Don't know if it... moreYes!! If you listen to a lot of these YouTube reviewers, they'll have their bias for s22 ultra because of s-pen functionality, control of Samsung over the media and the fact that majority are from US with very few options to choose from.
All the Chinese flagships are top notch.
Mi 12S ultra, vivo x80 pro, iqoo 9 pro, OPPO find X5 pro, ZTE axon 40 ultra, honor magic 4 pro ultimate. You can't go wrong with any of these

Or should I wait for iPhone 14 series? As usual it will be a minor refresh, so I'd more likely avoid the iPhone

Darknoor, 17 Jul 2022It never did...Oh no, of course it never did, you're all just so obsessed over what Android had first you all can't shut up about it literally everywhere, especially in any Apple article when Apple announces something that Android had "ages ago" and you're all dismissing it like it doesn't matter. And of course, obligatory repeated reassurance how Android had that "ages ago"...
That kind of "it never mattered" ?

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2022android already have face unlock years agoa) which Android?
b) was it crap?
c) is it still around?
People need to stop saying "Android had it". Unless Android AOSP had it, then Android DIDN'T have it years ago if just Samsung or Huawei had it in their variant of Android.
Secondly, all the 2D face unlock is rubbish, insecure and unreliable. You can fool it with a photo of someone's face and it doesn't even work in low light. And thirdly, is it still around? I don't know if Huawei still includes their 3D face unlocking and Google sacked their Project Soli which was only available in THEIR version of Android found on Pixel phones. Stop saying like ALL Android phones had something. That's not how any of it works. Not to mention just having something years before doesn't mean it's actually any good. And Android phone shave tons of this stuff that was included years ago and it's pretty rubbish.

Anonymous, 16 Jul 2022android already have face unlock years agoeveryone already know that. but it isnt the most secure option. you can even fool it with a photo if you have a cheap low end device. since it only relies on front cam.

Sometimes, it’s easy to forget that you’re actually unlocking your iPhone by just looking at it vs consciously touching your phone to unlock.”
This! And for example when i open my whatsapp which is secured by face ID, i just open the whatsapp like it’s not locked and i do this tens of times a day. Same with banking app and others secured apps. Would be really annoying to do this with always touching the fingerprint scanner, face ID is invisible lock and it’s so effortless.

Minu, 16 Jul 2022It's because they have great marketing, but it's ... moreThat's a weird way to say it and just pretending Galaxy S, main line Xiaomi models, all the Oppo Find X models and so on don't even exist and they cost about the same as vanilla iPhone.
Saying "yeah, but those have cheaper models, iPhones don't" is a bit weird, because if you buy Galaxy A33 instead of Galaxy S22, you haven't really bought a Galaxy S anymore, right? So, the comparison is entirely irrelevant. And it's not much different with iPhone SE. Fair enough, you can get iOS experience cheaper, but that's about it. In no way SE is an iPhone the way currently new and relevant models are between each other.
iPhone 13 and iPhone 13 Pro Max, sure there are differences, but essentially, they are the same phones. Same with Galaxy S22 and S22 Ultra (roughly speaking though divide here is actually bigger). Galaxy A33 or even A53 are faaaaar away from what Galaxy S22 is and it's just not the same experience. Sure, you again get roughly the same Android experience like you do iOS experience on iPhones, but that's about it.
If you can't afford a vanilla iPhone, you clearly aren't in the market for such priced phone and it just wouldn't matter because you wouldn't be looking at Galaxy S22 either and this one isn't an iPhone. But that's how I look at the situation.

AnonD-1034750, 16 Jul 2022I really think passive biometrics is the future and Android... moreThere's nothing wrong with fingerprint scanner, except that a lot of companies still make it ridiculously slow or unreliable which is just baffling after all these years of its existence. And how some vendors awkwardly put it so low on the display you need to bend the thumb sideways to reach it.
FaceID had its share of issues with masks and older models do have slightly narrower field of detection so you need to sometimes look over if it's laying flat on desk, but other than that, I love it. It's just so quick and seamless. You just raise a phone and before you can do anything with it it's already unlocked. And even though it's facial recognition, it's probably the most secure system of its kind. I always said I'd like to see TouchID and FaceID together, either for users to pick what they want or to even boost security and require both, fingerprint and face at the same time, but for now FaceID is my preferred way. Acceptable alternative for me is just scanner under the display or partially one that acts as a power button.
