If you go to the actual Sleep Health Journal article, you will see that "transmittance pulse oximetry was used as a reference instead of co-oximetry". The conclusion of the journal article does NOT claim any superiority of the Samsung product. Journalist may want to update article before friends and family read it.

JustSomeRandomGuy, 27 Jul 2022"report was funded by Samsung"
enough saidIt's bad journalism. The person who wrote the article confused Samsung's research with a medical study.
You might as well complain that a medical company has to report its findings when it researches new drugs, and say that they're dishonest because they publish it like they are required to.
Bad journalism on GSM Arena's side, nothing else.

I wo... moreI hope it'll come far enough to reliably detect not just heart rate anomalies, but be able to reliably say "You're experiencing a heart attack". Most cases with heart attacks people don't go to doctor until it's often too late because they attribute the chest pain to something else and apparently it's not always a clear cut experience, some get severe pain in chest, others not and since no one experienced given pain before, it's hard to say.

Sorry GSM Arena, but you have confused yourself here.
It's not an advertisement, it's not a medical study, and it does not lie about participants or how it was carried out -- it says clearly in the beginning that this is Samsung's own evaluation of the health functions in one of their products.

My first smartwatch was the Frontier 3 samsung watch. I would wear it to bed to track sleep, but noticed my heart rate was JUMPING into the 90's in the middle of the night. On a routine doctor visit, I mentioned it to my doctor who had me do an at home sleep study which revealed mild sleep apnea. Been on a CPAP for almost 4 years. Now I routinely sleep through the night, and my heart rate stays in the 50's. SpO2 stays in the 90 range now. Amazing technology. My Samsung 4 watch also does ECG. Detected afib a couple times. Doctor hooked me up with a "wear it for a day or two" thingy and it said I had a couple mild afibs pop up. Changed my meds around and I think in the last year I've felt and detected it only a couple times. (runs in the family)

But their gps accuracy sucks. And the battery life with it on too. So not for a runner and adventurer like me.

This band was actually thoroughly tested and compared to ECG chest strap.

The majority of electronic devices are not accurate, regardless of whether they're on smartwatches osmoregulation expensive and professionalmedical equipment. Plus the majority of medical research is funded by interest groups and companies, so neutrality is never a possibility.
It's not just Samsung, it applies to everyone. I remember watching camel cigarette ads recently, and hundreds of other ads, made during the B&W Era, promoting smoking, with doctors and other health and medical practioners in them. Monsanto became the behemoth that it was, solely because of FSA and medical and health fraternity patronage.

They are not even close to usable considering heart rate, spo2 or god forbid blood pressure.
Good thing there are real tests with real numbers you can compare a lot of smartwatches to.

good but testing SPO2 alone is not satisfactory. hoped the research would have covered HR and GPS sensors, too. actually, they lack accuracy for a flagship device.

No way! Pulse rate are not accurate on a sweating skin during sport activities.
