Pangsailousai, 12 Aug 2022You are pretty much supporting my points dunno what you are... moreBoth these companies have made it clear that doesn't take the place of your Doctor.
But they can help that if you get a warning of something so you can go and get checked out medically. They are not 100% accurate but they are improving year over year.

Fearghast, 12 Aug 2022You even want to rely on gimmicks? When it comes to health?... moreWhere are you getting this? Simple two-lead EKGs are perfectly adequate for the purpose of detecting abnormalities, and Apple Watch has good accuracy in independent tests.
Blood pressure is a different story for now" Omron had an inflatable cuff watch that worked pretty well and was later copied by Huawei, where it didn't work so well. But for continuous blood pressure measurements in a wearable, Aktiia is the only game in town, and only if you are in Europe. Similar tech will probably appear in watches within a couple of years.

The features as they stand are rubbish, dangerous even if relied upon, but the technology Samsung uses to implement them isn't as bad as Samsung makes it out to be. Samsung has put little effort into making them work. Once improved of course it won't match dedicated devices but it wont this terrible either. It is the same case for step counters.
None of the smartwatch features are ever accurate, not even simple step counts compared to proper dedicated devices but the step counters are reasonably accurate to get a ballpark figure which is close to the real values that's what needs to be done before Samsung launches another smartwatch.
You are right, Watch 5 will be the same story knowing Samsung, DoA launch.
To me smart watches are pretty dumb products compared to a regular watch with battery life of years. These things only contribute to e-waste without the ability to change batteries when its dead.
Watch 4 hasn't been shat on enough by the influencers because of the crass shilling on YouTube. When you get review product you are automatically obliged to be good to the supplier else you lose good standing for future review samples. That right there is the issue.

It's kinda baffling they can put these potentially dangerous "features" in the smartwatch and call them blood pressure.
My point is simple - Samsung's tracking for heart rate is bad, blood pressure accuracy is non-existing, it's simply guestimate - you have to calibrate it every week with medical device + the most important thing inaccurate blood pressure is useless - there is no room for "close enough" when it comes to blood pressure.
But what do I know, Apple got certification for their EKG, that does not work by any stretch of the imagination either.
It won't ever work on Galaxy Watch5.

Fearghast, 11 Aug 2022It won't work, there is no reason to even try.Not sure what you are trying to convey when you say "it wont work"
Normal home blood pressure monitors use oscillometric technique using a sphygmomanometer like the Omron and similar devices. Samsung seems to be using the Pulse wave analysis technique. The problem with this approach is that their heart rate sensor is already not that accurate in a normal stance and is terrible during strenuous workouts whejn mucles are and wrists are tightly clinched, which is a problem for almost all smartwatches anyway. This is why Samsung's Blood pressure monitor is all over the place. It can be made better but it will never come close to the accuracy of a oscillometric technique employing device but it doesn't have to be to prove useful. The point is, right now it is total garbage it can atleast be made better as a casual reference device to alert if there are big real changes, not accurate ones, but good enough to then go and check on a real BP device.
SpO2: Samsaung uses Reflectance pulse oximetry (PO) while your standard oximeters use transmittance pulse oximetry. Reflectance PO works by whining light and reading the difference off the bounced back light while transmittance shines lght on one end and then measured the light that comes through the flesh on the other end. The latter is more industry established and a proven technique. Reflectance PO has severe limitations and the devices needed to get anywhere near the desired accuracy are far bulkier than what Samsung has put into the watch. Its a gimmick at this point and so are the rest of the smartwatches with SpO2 features. Still it can be improved by a lot and that's the point am trying to make. These smartphone inclusions are just nice to have when they sort of work, however right now they are all just totally broken like pathetic gimmicks.
It is inaccurate to claim it won't work, rather the correct assessment should be these features right now are gimmicks but they can be improved to be sort of useful.

Watch 4's Blood pressure and SpO2 readings were all over the place, total gimmicks with no value in terms of usage. Samsung should focus on actually testing these things rigorously before releasing. Dangerous to even use them as casual measurements. These devices are worthless if people bought them for specifically those two features.
