i use mate 20 pro since 2019. it was ahead of its time, best camera phone back then and it can still compete with many flagships like s22 ultra. the photos are surprisingly sharper and cleaner, especially on 40MP mode. s22 ultra photos have blurry details on 108MP mode, i suppose it is the post-processing's fault.

anyway, the kirin 980 is great too. i have no performance issues till today. i am playing cod mobile since january 2020, which is a 16GB game and i have no problems, even with high graphics. i only feel overheating when i play for long.
battery is great too, now endurance has dropped, but i still get through a day with mediocre usage.

UI is the best of all, i started with emui 9 and now i am at emui 12. i got no bugs, system works smoothly and i am at may 2022 security patch, though i get security updates less frequently than in the first years but that is the same with every other brand too.

i heard from a friend using the mate 40 pro that it has continued the same level of quality.

i personally tried out the p50 pro in a shop once. i was disappointed by the telephoto. the quality was too blurry on this lens, there the s22 ultra was much better with its 10x optical zoom.
i really hope huawei will come back some day with 5g and kirin chips and the 10x optical zoom from p40/mate 40 pro+.

for now, i am looking at xiaomi mi 11 ultra as a worthy successor to my mate 20 pro, as it has a camera of great quality, the battery is larger and the display is extremely brighter than on my mate 20 pro.

i wish all the best to huawei

Very good decision, powerful and very power efficient and cheap for the customers

Super Android 22, 15 Aug 2022I love Huawei, they were the best android phones by a mile ... moreWhen Huawei was put on the entity list, the supply chain was severely disrupted and had to be re-jigged. That takes time.

Huawei made it clear that it would simply eliminate US technology from its plans, causing billions in lost sales to US semi-conductor interests. The US semi conductor association wrote to the White House warning of the damage but it fell on deaf ears.

Huawei has now invested in pretty much every area of chip design and fabrication. The Chinese government has also stepped up efforts to reach semi conductor self sufficiency (just like the US and EU) and Richard Yu stated last year that 2023 was the 'comeback' year (interpret that as you like).

It looks like 5G on Huawei phones will be ready soon (5G on base stations wasn't affected as severely).

So, as a result of putting Huawei on the entity list, US semi conductor interest had a hole blown into it (less revenue from China which equals less R&D funding and Chinese companies looking to create new technologies to compete directly with those US companies).

Google finds itself in a similar situation with less revenue coming in through ads and Huawei now going head to head with it as a competitor in every sense (ad, AI, cloud, automobile, OS...).

Huawei stated late last year that the worst of the Entity list consequences had passed and while there are still plenty of hurdles to overcome (not least Covid related aspects and general contraction in the handset industry worldwide) but according to Richard Yu a new 'spring' is about to come.

its fine to use older gen SoC but at least their prices shouldn't be competing with current devices with latest SoC, and its only 4g too.

yalim, 15 Aug 2022is huawei still producing smartphones? same broken formula ... moreHuawei were the best android experience you could get.

Best features, came with biometrics sensor for dedicated unlock, phones with periscope telephoto, telephoto, depth, ultrawide and wide on 1 device, did this a year before Samsung too, electro magnetic (I think it's that) speaker under screen for the best call experience you can get, clearest screen you could get (the way they designed their screens on their flagships meant it didn't need to hit 1700 nits and all that bs to get a kindle clear screen, better viewing than my old pixel 6 pro with QHD screen) fast charging and crazy consistent WiFi and data which also outperformed my 6 pro again in speeds (and connecting to a stable 5g service). No mis touch either on the screen.

Not mentioned the better desktop experience than Samsung that connected instantly to any smart TV or motion features with your hands that worked insanely well (talking to you LG and pixel 4). UI was pretty much flawless too, didn't need to change anything.

Olympus Oms, 15 Aug 20224g? Poor huawei. Still living in 2019. They can't use 5g because of bans in America/American companies (even though Huawei were leaders in communication). It's why p50 was a 4g phone too.

I love Huawei, they were the best android phones by a mile when using Google services but their p series is dead and so is the mate... Their phone division is basically over now.

Lost kirin chips too which were insanely good and never put a foot wrong (cough cough, tensor, exynos and even snapdragon). The kirin 990 is on par with tensor in real world (I know it is from using pixel 6 pro and P40 pro, P40 pro is just more consistent and no bugs). 4g and 5g speeds were crazy good aswell.

R.I.P Huawei (atleast in the Western world, phone division might last few more years in China).

4g? Poor huawei. Still living in 2019.

Kirin on P30 Pro is so good and efficient. Same to Exynos before Samsung fcked up their chips fabrication. Having only Snapdragon on all flagship phone except Google and Apple will be not good in a long term. Just look at SD888 and SD8G1, one fckup from Samsung and almost all phone released during 2021 and early 2022 suffered overheat, low efficiency and poor peak performance period. I know Mediatek exists but OEM never use its chip on their top of the line.

Trash software and user experience, do you refer that to lack of Google apps, GMS and PlayStore? If yes it's understandable if it's something else, I disagree. Its software is much better than any other Chinese OEM software like Miui, Realme UI, ColorOS etc.
