Samsung's new Odyssey Ark is an enormous 55" 165Hz gaming monitor with "cockpit mode"

Digital resolution is not what analogue resolution is, and this is the problem . There are great manufacturers who are, basically tricking us all of the time. Whether it be stating that a quad bayer sensor is 48MP instead of its real resolving ability about 12MP, or stretching a moderate 4K over 55", 65", 75", 85" that you have to be a long way away for the illusion of definition to work...
I'd rather stay with my ancient 5K 27" iMac screen, because at least everything even zoomed in to edit- as with photos- is SHARP!
In case you do not know, even 8K on a 55" 16:9 monitor is a lot less detail resolution than 5K on a 27" monitor.
I ordered an 8K Samsung 700B 55" QLED TV despite this as I need 8K resolution to be able to see the detail in my photos well enough for noise reduction and sharpening, only to cancel, when after weeks of asking, Samsung eventually broke down and confessed that , yes, it is an 8K TV, but we've stopped everyone from being able to put an 8K resolution signal into it via HDMI 2.0 or 2.1 (just so you pay us twice when we "give" you an 8K monitor that can....)
Personally I try to do my best, and it grieves me to see people deliberately releasing obsolete underperforming specifications as though they are the nth wonder of the world, whatever the price.

Alex, 14 Oct 2022Man, if only it was 8k, and at least 60Hz. 4k on a 55 inch ... more55" at this price is a pretty bad deal. Shame on Samsung.

Man, if only it was 8k, and at least 60Hz. 4k on a 55 inch is outdated. I have a Samsung RU7300, it has a curved, it's 55 inch, it's 4k, and it is now being sold at 499$. Not as much curved, but not worth paying >3000$ for more curvature, with a humongous frame-rate, which I will definitely not use for coding or text editing. I would benefit from the improve curvature, but given the same 4k resolution, it's not worth it.

This one vs their G9. I would still go for G9.
As it is easier on the eyes to see from left to right.. then to raise your head to see.

I think most people are getting it wrong, technically you can get a 55 inch 4k samsung tv with mini leds 720 dimming zones and 120 hz for around 1300 usd for q85b and use as a pc monitor, (and yes, there are a few people who did that on youtube actually (with different models))
And for that you get 4 screens with real estate of 27 inches at least according to display wars website (sorry GSM arena but it's not 22.5 inch)
But the main advantage to the ark is curvature, because when you use a very big flat monitor corners appear distorted, washed out slightly and becomes much more far than the center of the display.
Also for people asking for an 8k, I think it would not make much of sense, because you can't (at least as far as I know) run 8k @120+ hz so you would need to switch to a 4k mode for gaming anyway. But it would be good for productivity (with increased price) (and lower overall quality)

Anonymous, 15 Aug 2022Why curved display when it is 55"? Who is going to sit... moreActually curvature is the most important feature of the display, because not being curved will give image distortion and some color shift in the corners.

Basically an overkill. Prefer 32 inch 1440p gaming monitors with 120hz refresh rate

I think this monitor would only be good for certain games - with something like Elite Dangerous or flight sims. Too much screen real estate for an FPS imo

To the best of my knowledge this would be the first 4K gaming monitor available in India, to go beyond 152Hz, most are 144 Hz.
Of course, available in India is the key term.
