Google doing this might actually be a good thing for folks NOT wanting to buy any more smartphones like myself. Looks like the Pixel 3 will be the last Pixel I'll ever buy. No interest in Tensor and the Pixel Notepad. My 3 still has the unlimited saver storage for Google Photos. Fast fingerprint on the back. Wasn't so large. Snap 845 and the 855 the Pixel 4 series had are still superior to the 765G the Pixel 5 got.
I remember updating my Pixel 3 to Android 10 about 3 years ago. My 3 was perfectly fine on Pie. Once updated to 10, battery life went down the drain by at least 15-20% similar to my Pixel 1 from 7 to 8. This was after a refresh restore. Had lag and glitches too. Broke some older apps. I was so mad, I didn't even want to touch my Pixel 3 again for a few days while my sim went back to my LG G5 since my second Essential PH-1 wasn't purchased yet until a few weeks later.
I was so discouraged that my Pixel 3 became some useless paperweight. Then some YouTuber taught me how to downgrade. My 3 is still on the Aug 2018 update of Pie. Everything went back to normal. Fast. Smooth. Longer battery life. I keep getting the notification to update saying my software is outdated but I just close it.
Those are now the good ol' days from Android. Something from only 3-4 years ago. It only seems to get worse every year since. Now I'm in the process turning my smartphone like my iPhone SE1 into a dumber phone by getting rid of my time-wasting apps like YouTube and restricting my browser usage. The SE1 will likely be my daily driver in about 13 months.
Battery life is so bad, it's not like I can use it a lot. If only listening to music with wired headphones, then it's fine. Anything that needs Internet, I mostly deleted them except apps like Gmail, Google Photos, Pandora, and Podcasts. I can't delete Safari though. Apple won't let us. Free your mind from this rabbit hole called Internet addiction and reading or commenting on social media junk food.

Even Pixel devices are now not free from anti-rollback. Soon you'll need to get bootloader unlock key from Google. Soon, there'll be no official way of unlocking bootloader and hence no root!

A5x series get monthly patches in the first 2 years, compared to quarterly patches on A7x models in similar time frames.
(A52 A53 gets monthly patches in first 2 years, A72 A73 gets quarterly patches in first 2 years)
Maybe that would explain why A5x series run relatively smoother compared to A7x series.

who would have the right mind updating to android 13 if android 12 is fine?? dear google, if it aint broke, dont fix it.
i bet android 13 will have more restriction to file manager.

At this pace even Apple now looks even better than G-Android.

Google keeps getting worse and worse. I remember when Android was all about being open-sourced, versatility, and freedom. Pixels are getting more locked down than iPhones.
Google is becoming Apple and making it worse to never buy another Pixel ever again. Gone is the free unlimited saver option to upload photos and videos on Google Photos. The YouTube app has gotten so bad on both platforms, I deleted it on my iPhone.
I think my switch to a $9.99 T-Mobile prepaid plan next year once my iPhone 12 mini and Razr 5G are paid off is going to make a lot more sense. Time to get off the Internet like Selena Gomez. Only use it when I really need to.
A lot of Internet usage is just time wasting and looking at ads to make companies like Google and Facebook rich. Reading the next snarky tweet and meme on Twitter. People's mental health and productivity has gotten worse thanks to the overusage of smartphones.

It's far from a smooth phone. Android 12 improved it, yes, but is it really smooth? Absolutely not.

Pro:
+ good camera with perfect AI image processing
+ flagship design screen (higher screen ratio compared to A52 A53)
+ 4 years software support
+ great UI design and animation
Con:
- not a gaming phone (limited graphic choice)
- limited features in pro mode camera (compared to S series)
- no IP67 rating
- 4000 maH battery
