And if streaming sites decides to...switch to AV1 and to kick out h264/h265?
A few years ago my country switch TV broadcasting to DVB-T when many people still have analogic tuners. Later we switch to DVB-T2 when many people still have DVB-T tuners.
Hardware decoding means extra-low CPU usage...
As I said, nearly all companies switch to AV1! Such a massive move is something to consider.
I prefer getting 1300T, have maybe 5% fps less on games like Genshin Impact instead of using something that can become obsolete!

So because of this whatever codec is I cant stream 4k on android? I dont really care as 1080 is plenty enough for mobile devices. I cant see any pixel streaming 1080 on my tablets. Looks the same as my 4k TV. Not to mention less data less CPU power less battery drain.

Ashton, 21 Aug 2022- Nobody cares about AV1 or whatever it is. I never had a p... moreUninformed people doesn't care!
With the kind of idea you have, people still watch video in 320x200! Fortunately people think different!
Netflix, Disney+, YouTube or Apple know AV1 will allow them :
- to gain space on servers and save money
- to gain money as they won't pay royalties as it is a free codec
See you in a couple of years! You will watch your videos in 1080p despite your screen is 2k. I will watch in 2k/hdr10...
It's a matter of time : Mpeg2 replaced Mpeg
H264 replaced Mpeg2
H265 failed a bit to replace H264 due to high royalties.
AV1 is the current step.
Then H266 will follow...specs are from July 2020, more focused on 8k. First soc are already available (Mediatek's Pentonic 2000 for TV). For this one, you can consider it's a little bit early.
The only compatibility issues on apps you will see is on emulators! And since the MMJ and MMJr versions it's even less and less the case.
Thanks media to disinformed you : many got their free trip to Hawaii paid by Qualcomm! ;-)
When Exynos, Tensor, Mediatek, Rockchip, Amlogic, Broadcom, Novatek, Mstar, Broadcom, Intel, Nvidia, AMD provide solutions...Qualcomm still doesn't!
Intel Arc Alchemist even offers hardware encoder.
Do you really think all that companies are wrong?

- On the other hand optimization and compatibility with apps are way better on snapdragon devices. Benchmark scores don't mean much. In real world use snapdragon will always be better.

Klaus shwab , 19 Aug 2022Snap 870 is better ,why would they do this?Lenovo released 2 models in China :
- one with your Snapdragon 870
- one with Dimensity 1300T
Considering :
- people often use tablet for streaming
- lack of AV1 hardware decoder on any Snapdragon makes them obsolete when Mediatek has since 3 years!
- 870 based pads are already available
- performances gap between 870 and 1300T isn't that huge.
I really hope we get the 1300T version in EU...and thinking about purchase one.
...we will probably get the 870 version, due to uninformed consumers.
Just go and ask some "specialists" sellers in a TV shop : most of them don't know what is AV1, make confusion with AVI container...very funny!

And what does it have to with HDR? You realize HDR is not activated when navigating through the main screen and app drawer unless when you watch a video shot in HDR right? I dont need you to lecture me about screen technologies. I know the differences. Its well known on most tech forums that the Pad Pro 2021 has a terrible screen. A simple google search will do. Btw you sound like a Lenovo shill, a pretty bad one with no actual knowledge and only parrots things off a spec sheet

Lenovo has an optional transparency setting that allows you to "see through" overlays. If you choose to use this feature, the overlay is, of course, going to look somewhat washed out compared to a single image. OLED is a good technology for media consumption as it offers a wide color gamut capability as well as much deeper blacks than alternative LCD and LED screen tech. Lenovo's OLED tablet screens beat Samsung's. HDR requires the use of a 100% brightness setting to provide the expected contrasts in content. Turning an OLED screen that runs HDR to 50% brightness will result in significantly poorer imaging, so set it to the way it is meant to be.

Y700 would've been my choice for on the go media/gaming tablet, but the lack of 5g or even lte connectivity was a let down. I hope they update it to SD8+ gen1, an amoled screen with at least 120hz refresh rate, 720hz touch sampling and 5g connectivity, and hoping they don't remove the expandable storage.

The irony with Android tablet market is that even though tablets can equip more powerful processors due to large size, they are equipped with midrange SOC. Apple is doing great by putting the M1 processor in their Pro lineup of iPads, while Android tablets are getting weak, specially when they can leverage the extra power.
