kevinmcmurtrie, 22 Aug 2022Watch out for the carrier support. The Mark III series has... moreOr the US carriers are at fault.
Fun story, a friend of mine from the US came over few weeks ago and he has a LG G8, which for his carrier in the US doesn't even support VoLTE.
He came to my country (EU), put in a sim card from my country in his phone (for cheaper internet) and got a message VoLTE is supported and can be used.
It's stupid considering the phone was never sold here (we got the G8S instead) and yet VoLTE does work, but in the US they tell him to get "a different brand".

"Past rumors suggest Xperia 5 IV will be powered by Qualcomm's Snapdragon 8+ Gen 1 chipset."
Oh boy, overheating comes again.
Really I want to like the Xperia 1 and 5, but Sony needs to stop being lazy because the phones, especially since last year overheat too much.
Fix the cooling Sony

kevinmcmurtrie, 22 Aug 2022Watch out for the carrier support. The Mark III series has... moreYes. Motorola and One Plus are the only phones which work with all carriers flawlessly. Motorola especially. Moto Edge + 2022 works flawlessly with CBand and mmwave. I believe Moto Edge 2022 works with mmwave as well. So far it's good for 499. People should get it. Next year it will be good with CBand and mmwave.

I can't believe Sony continues to sell their expensive phones in North America. Motorola, OnePlus and Sony are terrible. It would be great if Sharp were available outside of Japan.

Considering their past records, I don't think Sony will use the plus variant of snapdragon 8 gen1.

Anonymous, 22 Aug 2022No 8+ Gen 1? That's a bummerIf you change soc, you need to redesign motherboard anf make new firmware from zero.
Also it is second tiermphone, cant have better soc than the 1st tier phone.
Samsung has never given the Plus to FE, despite being a phone from second semester.

Dometalican, 22 Aug 2022I'm absolutely excited for this thing (especially if i... moreAs an Xperia 5 II owner myself, I will almost definitely never buy a Sony phone again. I chose this for the little "quality of life" features like SD card, headphone jack or notification light, but they don't make up for a) atrocious camera, especially at night (if the lighting conditions aren't ideal, the phone makes worse photos/video than 200$ Xiaomi. They made virtually zero improvements in Mark 3 so I don't believe much will change with Mark 4 either) and b) terribly buggy software.
I'm also a compact phone enthusiasts, but if I were to buy a phone today, I would just pick Sammy (S22 or wait for S23).

I just find it peculiar that the Mark iii onwards has VoWifi from GoogleFi of all carriers. If it wasn't for the current de-prioritization of MVNO's, I would move to GoogleFi for that benefit since T-Mobile and Verizon doesn't want to play nice with a device they don't sell.

The Mark III series has only partial functionality on the big three carriers and nothing on rural carriers. Just because they added US radio bands doesn't mean Sony will bother making it work.
