Google updates the boot loader with android 13 so your stuck with it forever
U can't just factory reset
Only need too do this if u know your trying force a change on people u know they might not agree with
So nothing phone is safe for now turns out not updating might be for the better

Phones are used for banking and have all your info as well as your credit card info.. Never used outdated devices for anything other than casual gaming.

Typical mistake in Chinese brands. They think hardware is everything and disregard the relevance of quality software and good software support in their phones.
Their value proposition is always about catchy hardware features with good prices, but never about quality software and proper support.

This news had even spoilt my mood. I took Nothing phone (together with Pixel 5) with me on holiday, which has just ended. A bit disappointed that the photos were not as good as Pixel 5's.
I really regret my decision to buy it. Not only because of the photo quality, but because softwarewise it feels like a trimmed down Pixel. And now this news. I should have waited for Pixel 7 instead.

While I do agree that Android versions are mostly not important as long as the manufacturer has useful features into their skin so they don't lag behind.
But the thing is, Nothing is basically on stock, so they already ARE lagging behind, not providing fast updates means that they will lag behind even further.
Plus yeah, as others pointed out, that's while being on almost stock so it shouldn't take so long, and that's with a single phone on the market, what will it be in a couple years (if they still exist)?
But what's worse is that they marketed this phone towards enthusiasts, promising a good support and failed to deliver on one aspect of it.
So... What remains on this phone? It's basically an overpriced A52s and doesn't even have the support advantage against it.
There was already very little before, but now that the hype has passed, we can clearly see that there is absolutely no reason whatsoever to buy this phone.

One of the sole reason why I never try buying an Android phone. Full of chinese shit brands and you don’t know when the latest OS will come your way. Curse apple as much as you want, but there are certain things that make them special.

This phone is soo mediocre, its so easy to find reasons why even random chinese phone is far better than this. Let alone popular phone like samsung or apple.
And im not even chinese phone user.
Nothing phone needs 50 years to reach the same level as samsung/apple in 2019.

So I bought this phone from Flipkart and been using this for 3 weeks and I completely agree with general sentiment that the phone is average midranger with all the hype in the world. Heck, from the software side, its missing so many features that you get in Oneplus or Samsung devices. I had the option of going with A52s but i chose nothing because of design and all the hype. I am very unhappy with following things in the phone. I don't know if other users also are facing the same issues.
Battery life: Its worst. I am not even getting 4 hours of SOT. Idle battery drain in the night even with bedtime mode is more than 15% overnight. Uninstalled all the unnecessary apps but still this issue is there.
Speakers: Its below average for stereo speakers. Even my oneplus 5 with mono speakers sounds the same as stereo speakers from Nothing.
Software: Even though the software is clean and stock android, its missing some must have features like app lock and pocket mode. Phone wakes up in the pocket on accidental touch. I did find a workaround in gesture settings for this but these features should be inbuild for the price being charged for the phone.
No chargers/Accessories in the box: Ok this one i accept is my fault as company said clearly that there is no charger in box but i still bought it :( However, the official charger is almost 2 times the amount being charged by other vendors. Plus, you don't event get scratch guard or case in the box. Since, its a new phone, i am finding it little tough to get accessories at my local phone stores. Especially the screen guard. I was able to find the case though.
Pricing the official accessories almost 2 times is bad practice. Nothing is not apple which is established brand with loyal fan following to pull this trick. Overall, I would say the phone doesn't justify the asking price. It should have priced at INR 28k minus the glyph light and wireless charger gimmicks and they should have provided charger in the box.
Now with this news about update i can say that some shady stuff is going at Nothing. All the hype is now fizzle out. How can a company with only one device and stock android say that android 13 will come out next year. I don't know if Carl Pei is good at making phone but one thing is for sure, he is so better in marketing and creating hype that even Apple's marketing department would be taking notes from his style of marketing.

I don't care about Android update,give a smooth experienced that's it. The brand can push Android 13 .....so later.
I will enjoy nothing with Android 12.
