Too small. At least the flagship phone has a usable screensize. The last thing I need this "phone" ist to make telephone calls. I need more space for apps on the screen.
But good that there are options for anyone.

The tall and narrow ratio is ok. Asus have done well to make compact phones like. I don't see why Sony could not make a compact phone. Unfortunately most consumers want large scrren phones nowadays. Sony should release their ace 3 model globally

they should add wireless charging.
21:9 is good for everything except video. keyboard takes less space, UI reveals more fields, holding is easier as the phone is narrow. same on ZFlip, works well.

I am very curious to see if Sony optimized their thermal management, which was a fundamental weakness of the Xperia 1 mark iv. Many users complained about massive overheating / throttling problems and found out that they could only use the camera for video recording if they turned off the gsm/3g/4g/5g modem (flight mode).
This strange behavior was attributed by many to insufficient thermal management, too small thermal compounds, and insufficient heat dissipation.
Now, if the Xperia 5 iv actually uses the new TSMC- based Snapdragon 8 + gen 1, which is arguably more efficient than its Samsung-made counterpart (8 gen 1), and if Sony optimzes the SoC for low energy consumption, then the 5 mark iv would have a good chance to become a winner.
I am very curious to see independent reviews and will wait a few months to see plenty of user experiences.
That being said: most reviews didn't mention thermal problems at all, while reddit and youtube are full of complaints about overheating.

kevinmcmurtrie, 26 Aug 2022You're right. It was the I-PRO that it was advertisin... moreAnd thankfully the Pro-I is for a very specific customer base. I agree the timing was...odd...but it wasn't like the Mark iii was obsolete at that point (heck, the Pro-I had to be given a worse telephoto and sacrificed wireless charging).
I'm sorry you had those issues (thankfully, mine has been naturally flawless since day 1). Hopefully these things were alleviated with the Mark IV.

Dometalican, 26 Aug 2022.... Considering we got the 1 iii in September (I bought th... moreYou're right. It was the I-PRO that it was advertising.
My first 1 III arrived two days after it started shipping but it bootlooped while charging if I had a fingerprint registered. Sony had it returned by FedEx Ground and it was lost for a month. Then Sony's repair center terminated my warranty because they said I tampered with the firmware. The phone simultaneously said the firmware was authentic and altered at the same time. I contacted Sony support twice a day until I found somebody to give me a refund, then ordered a new one. The new phone finally arrives and it tells me to pre-order a newer phone with a pop-up ad.
