Sony is being super anti-cosumer. Didn't Sony mentioned in an article the production cost of the console went down early this year and now they want to increase the price.

Very anti-consumer. In Japan you can barely grab a PS5 and the only available units are being sold for about $750-900 USD.

It's just a console, one of many produced. There are numerous high end and high demand technological products that have been produced in recent years. They have also been affected by all the economical factors brought on by COVID, the war in the Ukraine and the resulting hike in the costs of fuel and shortage of chips etc. They have not resorted to hiking prices like this on a product that is now two or three years old. They're going to milk this cash cow as long as they can and apologists like you are only helping them justify this exploitation of the consumer.

[deleted post]That's not the point. It's shameless profiteering. Many have said that the slow supply into the marketplace of PS5 is a deliberate strategy to increase. Simple economics. Reduce supply and increase the price on a price inelastic product so demand is massively outstripping supply. I won't buy one. Of course it doesn't matter to Sony because loads of mugs, like you most likely, have no problem with being ripped off and will buy. This is a console with a starting price of 500 euros two years ago that is being increased two or three years after launch due to a DELIBERATE snail like supply of the product. Absolutely not falling for it. If you want to, fine, but don't have a go at other people for refusing to be fleeced by a complete con job.

Are you aware of how much shipping prices have increased in the last two years? The Global Container Freight Rate in November of 2020 (PS5 launch date) was 3,060 USD. Today it is at 6,762 USD. Nearly all cargo ships use fuel from crude oil.
But when you look at the US Dollar strength, it's obvious that the price increase is mostly because of that. But these other factors (global economy) does affect it.
