Bought the Oppo Reno 8 Pro, great phone, however finding a case on or offline seems to be impossible unless you buy the standard silicon case from Oppo directly or are willing to wait a month for delivery from China (although unsure of whether these are for the Chinese model which is slightly different).

I bought oppo reno 8 pro along with free oppo pad air. Amazing phone, far better than iPhone 14 pro max. I think it will grab the market soon.

I wouldn't buy something relatively expensive like a flagship smartphone without an official manufacturer guarantee anyway and you don't get that for the vast majority of phones if you buy Chinese market models qnd live outside China. Oppo's Find x5 pro and Find x5 are the only ones I know of that offer a global warranty

AnonD-1058210, 01 Sep 2022It is depends if not you expect to local country to charge ... moreThe standard rate of VAT is 20% in the UK (standard rate applies to phones). Thus £100 VAT is due on a £500 phone. Of course if a £500 phone is declared for less than the true value the VAT will be less as it's percentage based

I prefer to deal with Germany with that, much much better experience. And it's often not even more expensive anyway.

AliExpress is great for cheap gadgets you can't even get in Europe or all sorts of adapters for cables and similar stuff. Also cheap parts and components for devices like robot cleaners. I'll never buy a smartphone from there because it's just not worth it.

SShock, 01 Sep 2022That may depend on the EU state, but in my country, we had ... moreThe rules are the same across the EU. It used to be 22 euro but changed in July 2021 when that was abolished and now they have the new rules I mentioned. Actually, I live in China but am from the EU. I did a sample order on Alibaba to my home country address out of curiousity and see what you mean about the price. The initial quoted price for a Xiaomi 12s ultra being shipped from China was $1,314 but when I clicked to pay the acutal price was $1,065 with a price Adjustment for VAT of $245 and a note that this would be due as a VAT collection at customs and a further note (You are encouraged to confirm the logistics and tax payment arrangement (for VAT, duties, agent fees etc.) with the seller. If it's coming from an EU warehouse though then the VAT should be directly added which is simpler.

Aierlan, 01 Sep 2022This should depend on the value of the goods and the origin... moreThat may depend on the EU state, but in my country, we had some useless low limit anyway so basically anything but cheap crap from China like cables and connectors got taxed. They now removed this limit entirely. If you buy something for 20 cents, they'll tax it.

Our customs were so clumsy and slow and their processing fee was so ridiculous I rather just pay the VAT and not have to deal with their utter slow a** incompetence. Also only way to pay the import taxes and handling was by cash to the mailman and my god that was a chore because you had to have cash at hand and make sure someone is at home to pay it. Now it just arrives and I'm done. Just have my VAT.

SShock, 01 Sep 2022I don't know for UK since it's not part of EU any... moreThis should depend on the value of the goods and the origin of the goods as far as i know. If the value is less than 150 euro then VAT should be added at the point of sale. Also if the origin is an EU country e.g. the goods are stored in an alibaba warehouse in the EU but the original seller was from outside the EU (e.g. China) then VAT is also charged at the point of sale regardless of the value (the importer to the warehouse should have already paid VAT (input VAT) when importing to the EU warehouse and then they will charge the end customer VAT to recover their input VAT effectively passing the VAT on to the consumer). If the origin is outside the EU i.e. the goods are being sold directly to the consumer from a outside the EU, and the value of the goods is over 150 euro then VAT should be charged at the point of import rather than the point of sale. Customs duties are also usually charged on items over this value together with VAT at the point of import but there are no customs duties on smartphones in the EU (they are an exempt item for customs duty) so only VAT is due.

UK VAT is 20% which would add another £100 to the price on aliexpress. Of course you may well get away without paying VAT if you import but it's illegal as VAT would be due. If you buy it officially in the UK there is no way of avoiding the 20% VAT
