Tim Cook would rather convert Android users to iPhones than adopt RCS

08 September 2022
"Buy your mom an iPhone", he said in response to a journalist's question.

[deleted post]Do you realize that you don't have privacy when you use SMS? That's what Apple uses.

Ohi, 08 Sep 2022Thanks Tim, we don’t want google’s half baked, anti-privacy... moreRemember when Apple used to complain that Microsoft didn't care about their users?
Word2 was the lastest on the Mac whilst Windows was on Word 6. Can't open the standard in word processing files? Aww. Buy Windows, was MS's solution.

And we apple users detested Gates for that attitude.

Why am I reminded of this now?

WAPC1, 09 Sep 2022I'll never give Apple money. Apple's rhetoric abo... moreApple's "rhetoric"? I think you're putting words into Apple's mouth. I've never heard them ever say they are giving you what they think is best for you. They have said something to the effect of they are giving you the best "blah blah blah" that they can give you, but never what they think is what's best for you. Semantics really but totally different meaning from you said.

From a poor european's perspective. I haven't touched SMS in literal years (im only 21 lol), so has my elderly dad because even he is more acquainted with telegram and viber. My work uses viber as well and messenger for the more group chats. RCS isn't something that necessary that google should not call out apple for it.

On the other side of the coin, an iphone just isn't for me mainly cause of budget. I have people to who i say "get an iphone" because i know it fits them more as a user (social media usage, camera etc). But for me a 350-450 Android device is absolutely fine (rn i use A52s). So cook's comment ain't really a dig but more of a marketing comment for the recently released Iphone 14s

If Apple doesn't want to do something so be it, what's it to anybody whether they do it or not. If you don't like what they offer, then don't buy it. I use both iOS and Android (iPhone 13 pro and OnePlus 6T) and the only time I ever use the built in messaging app on either platform is when the contact doesn't have data (yes not everyone has mobile data) or I don't yet know what messaging platform they use (Whatsapp, FB Messenger, etc.).

I like iphones but i was gonna explain 100% good reasons why dont have an iphone and even an iphone user would 100% agree but i wont. But will say 1 thing. If i want something that isnt in app store then i cant have it no matter what. And there are very good apps out there that give you what you want. That iphone cannot cuz it wont let u download from browser.

Anonymous, 09 Sep 2022Because it only happens to Android devices. Why would they ... moreYou don't make any sense. Do you understand that if you use an Apple phone, you can have friends who use Android phones? Don't you want to have good and secure chat experience with your friends? Your mentality is like that of Tim Cook, but you aren't Tim Cook. You are just a user. It's beyond me why you don't want better experience.

SShock, 09 Sep 2022You have a very niche demands then and you're looking ... more€2000 for a Sony Xperia 😂😂😂

Love the Community, 09 Sep 2022It's not niche. It should be for everyone. A flagship ... moreSo, you're b!tching over Apple's lack of headphone jack and wilfully ignoring 99% of other flagship phones that have EXACT SAME DAMN limitations. I don't see you demanding same from Samsung, Xiaomi, Oppo etc? Why not? It is what it is. It's weird, you'd expect flagships to have most of everything, but it's usually the budget phones that need to have everything to attract people who can hardly spend any money to pick thei phone because it has most of everything.

PhoneFreak45, 08 Sep 2022In an alternate reality where I bought a freakin iPhone: L... moreLet me get this straight, you're blaming iPhone for game not allowing resolution adjustment? LOL?

It plays FLAC files just fine and you can buy large enough capacities to store all of them. The fact it doesn't have wired headphones option... where were you living for the past several years where basically 99% of flagships lack headphone jack?

As for photo quality, what would you rather have, 48Mpix or 108Mpix sensor with garbage processing that looks absolutely terrible even with good lighting or 12Mpix that is usable across many lighting conditions and you can still zoom it just fine? I've just checked a photo of relatives and a cat I made few days ago on my aging iPhone XR and I can very much zoom it very far before even seeing pixels, noise and imagery artifacts.

Not saying iPhone fits everyone, but like I said, your examples are just bizarre.

This is about RCS, which is only supported on Google's own Messages app. The stock SMS apps on most Android phones from the Chinese OEMs don't support RCS.

SShock, 09 Sep 2022You have a very niche demands then and you're looking ... moreIt's not niche. It should be for everyone. A flagship should be complete; Comes with bells and whistles as they say. If it's for everyone, everyone is advanced but no, Apple wants to people to stay safe while being stifled and dumb. The iPhones are not able to plug a wired headphone while wired charging at the same time. That's crazy that they're a trillionaire company but they can't do that.

potato4k, 09 Sep 2022Why should Apple bother when Xiaomi, BBK, etc are not even ... moreDid you really just forget that Google doesn't operate in China, or... ?

And it doesn't take much thinking to understand why Chinese branded phones don't adopt RCS for their messaging apps. RCS is about privacy and security. The Chinese government can't allow that.
