Tim Cook would rather convert Android users to iPhones than adopt RCS

08 September 2022
"Buy your mom an iPhone", he said in response to a journalist's question.

You're comparing tiny phone speaker to a dedicated one that's entirely a speaker and has drivers 100x larger. You're making an absolutely nonsensical comparison in every single way just to s**t on iPhone. wtf

So essentially - "Let them eat cake". Sure, Tim Apple.

Even when taking the context into account, the way he worded it still managed to make himself look like a total jerk.

I'll switch to iPhone when they have good "back" gesture. Currently using iphone is a nightmare because you constantly have to use both hands.

There are some "pros" to some Apple products I suppose, but I cannot support an anti-consumer overpriced BS company. It's that simple, and people that defend those practices (especially the lightning cable omfg) are simple minded

Why should Apple bother when Xiaomi, BBK, etc are not even supporting RCS on their stock SMS app? Google should talk to the Chinese and carriers first. This RCS debacle is only a red herring the fact that Google keeps failing in making their own chat platform.

As for sharing photos, why not just use Google photos? Dumb question.

Ohi, 08 Sep 2022Thanks Tim, we don’t want google’s half baked, anti-privacy... moreSo you'd rather Apple keep letting users message non-iPhone users with the very antiquated and definitely insecure SMS/MMS standard? 🤔

RCS is simply a protocol, and a far more secure one for cross platform messaging. You wouldn't need to use a different messaging app, Apple would just need to add support for it to the existing Messages app.

If anyone here can talk with Tim Cook, please tell him: I appreciate your decision about RCS. but please decide to use USB-C into the iPhone as you did in the iPad. And if Tim Cook can do more thing, please tell him: connect your bluetooth and NFC to other devices too for transfering data/pay something/etc.

SShock, 08 Sep 2022I was comparing iPhone sound being a comparison to JBL GO (... moreI didn't compare it to the jbl models, i compared it to some cheap $35 soundbar. Also, the jbl go is nearly a decade old and by no means any benchmark of small-est speakers. Compare it to a tribit stormbox micro or little xiaomi square speaker at least. Also, these "big subwoofers" on the side of the jbl flip/charge speakers are just passive radiators, nor do these models have any subwoofer, there is just a fullrange driver which has nothing to do with a real subwoofer driver which start at 8 inch+ or better 12 inches, which can actually deliver real deep enjoyable bass at 30 Hz or lower, unlike these bluetooth fartboxes, or even worse a mobile phone, get these for actually enjoy music, not a phone speaker.

I have over 4 years old budget phone that have 18W fast charger and i have only charged it with my something 23W charger basically month after i bough the phone to this day. The degradation of my phone battery by now is probably as much as i would of charge it with the standard 5W charger. It's just so dumb argument without valid proof what so ever and it's being already proven that it's dumb excuse too

Anonymous, 09 Sep 2022Can you explain how RCS doesn't benefit Apple users wh... moreBecause it only happens to Android devices. Why would they care what happens to what iPhone users send to non-Apple devices, when it's perfectly fine for both Apple users sending stuff? iMessage wasn't even intended to be something to what it is today, but now that Google has publicly made a campaign by practically shooting themselves in the foot, Apple now sees this as a leverage to switch to iPhones instead if you want to fix that specific problem. And like I said, it doesn't matter for Apple if their own users are not having difficulties with each other. It's only for their users interacting with non-Apple devices. This is Google's problem alone.

Do you know that now Apple uses SMS/MMS, don't you? Why don't most people bash Apple? That's probably because most people use cross-platform apps or they believe that Apple doesn't care. An Apple user just gets told to buy an Apple phone for his mom.

Anonymous, 08 Sep 2022Supporting RCS will be good for Apple users, but Apple does... moreNo, it won't be in it's current state, at least. There's no incentive for them to do so yet. If this was the other way around, I bet you everyone on the internet would be cheering loudly and bashing on Apple every chance they get for basically begging a different company to come join the party of the half-baked "standard" they implemented and fix it for them.

I'm all for proper interoperability, but until Google figures out how to let everything play out nicely and actually make a properly documented "standard" of their RCS implementation, Apple is just going to sit out this sh!tshow for now and would definitely support it once it's actually ready.

Well... Put Android on the iPhones and I am happy to buy one.
But after 10 years of using Android, my iOS company phone feels like something from the 20th century. Many thing is unintuitive, the phone is doing stupid things (like answering the calls not on the bluetooth headset/car speaker. I have to switch it manually after I have accepted the call)... So iOS is like a beta version OS compared to Android, I would never give money for it.

I know very few people who communicate using the built-in Messaging apps on either platform. The ones that do use it usually don't have mobile data and are using it as straight up SMS Text when necessary. Otherwise the majority are either on Whatsapp, or FB Messenger. Most of the media that are shared are casual photos/videos or things from social media and no one has ever once mentioned quality of the media. It's usually "oh I look nice in this one" lol.

I only ever use the built-in messaging apps on either platform if I am not sure if the person on the other side has data (yes not everyone has data all the time) or if I'm not sure what platform to message them in. Most people I know will have Whatsapp or FB Messenger and prefer to communicate that way.
