This was case maybe 5 years ago. I use daily my iPad Pro from 2017 and it runs very fast and smooth still with iOS15. Back in days OS got big feature upgrades which might had make device slower, it’s not been issue in many years. That’s why it’s so funny that Android OEMs only mostly give 2 years os upgrade because of the greed, those Android devices would easily run newest Android updates, but it’s bad business for Android OEMs if you keep your same device long time so they ”force” you to buy new one.

I'm not overly thrilled by the fact that the 14 Plus is literally the 13 Pro from last year simply with its Telephoto Camera & 120Hz display being removed but for the same price here in the UK.
Yes it's a larger phone but it's not as though the iPhone 13 Pro had it bad with its 6.1" size.
This is one thing that Apple has done that I really don't like.

An android phone that will be stuck woth android 12 in 2025 will be in much better conditions than an iphone stuck with iOS 18. That is the point.
Google does not force you to update. So, you can keep the out of box version to avoid any issues brought by updates. Apple forces you. That is your problem if your device is doing well because of updates.
Every iOS version I receive here, just makes my tablet worse. Issues I did not have with out of box version.
It is so nice to have 90% of RAM used when there is 1 app open (browser by the way). Apps that crash suddenly (safari, reddit, google maps).
I can say basically 99% of people I have met use iphones and samsung midranges.
People that used to keep iphones for 4 years, now use for 2. All complain that after years the devices are too slow.
If you really believe 14 series will be majority bought by users that have 11, Xs, X or 8; you need to come back to Earth.

I think the most logical choice for most people would be iPhone 13 since its cheaper and looks the same as newer model. Would be even cheaper in second hand market for those who just want a working phone and don't want to spend fortune on the same phone.
It would be interesting to see if this discriminatory "push buyers for Pro models" backfires Apple and majority of the newbuyers go for older models.

Also, the Apple A16 is barely faster than the Apple A15, which was barely faster than the A14, which was barely faster than the A13. Performance wise, an 11-series iPhone from 2019 should be competitive against the 14-series iPhones from 2022. That's three years of similar performance bracket.
The iPhone 11 Max is still a great device and maybe worth holding onto for one more year. Older devices are even lower and should be upgraded soon. However, if you must upgrade it, it's only worth upgrading to the iPhone 14 Max; you do get better battery life, with 5G enabled, and 120Hz screen active. So that's potentially worth upgrading, when combined with the sharper cameras and longer software support period.
Another option worth considering is the 2021 iPhone 13 Mini, it's getting discontinued so now is your last chance to get one of the last compact devices on the market. Pretty identical to the best of the best out there.

In ... moreIt's so pathetic you're all still fearmongering unknowing users with this BS. It's not because Android is so wonderful, it literally HAS to be this way because of its horrid fragmented versioning and vendors who are lazy and don't give users any support at all, otherwise no one could run any app after just 3 years. So, you're left with old outdated Android version that can still run latest apps. Mostly.
Meanwhile, on iOS side of things, iPhone 7 from 2016 is currently running latest iOS 15.6. A 6 years old phone. If iOS 13 is the current "last" version required, this means after 2 more years, a then 8 years old phone will start to have issues running some apps. Now, tell me, how many people run 8+ years old phones and expect full functionality from them?
Apple requires users to run more up to date iOS and they deliver said up to date versions to users for years. Something Android vendors don't do and because of that, requirements need to be more lax for whole thing to even function. So, please stop spreading nonsense about iOS and fearmongering users with false information from trying it.
And no, software support is not "waste of time and money". I have iPhone XR and I currently don't agree with Apple's path of vanilla iPhone 14's. So I've decided to stick with my XR and not upgrade. I'm still excited for iOS 16 coming next Monday. And guess what, I'm getting iOS 17 next year pretty much guaranteed. Also, your argument that it slows phones down is entirely untrue as my phone is 4 years old now and it's still as snappy as it was the day I bought it. Same goes for your bugs argument. I've updated my iPhone every single time the moment updates were released. I've only had 2 minor glitches that weren't huge. I'm not expecting anything to change with iOS 16 despite being loaded with more features.

Well duh.
iPhone 14 is almost a clone of the iPhone 13, and the iPhone 14 Plus is almost a clone of the iPhone 13 Max. With the price rises across the board, and inflation, it's kind of stupid to buy either of those devices. You either spend the money and get what you want (14 Pro/Max), or you skip those expensive options and get something that's value for money (eg Samsung A52-S) instead.

Be sure most of these clients have 12 or 13 series.
In the end, the long support is waste of time and money.
And make phones very slow and full of bugs.
The people that demand the most years of software here are the ones getting new phones every year just because geekbench is 10% better and antutu is 120.000 higher.
Which daily makes zero difference.
My next table tablet will be android. I can keep using same android out of box and all apps will be working for more than 8 years.
So pathetic that iOS 13 from 2019 cannot run all apps, but android 8 from 2017 can.

Non Pro models arent worth their starting price.
They will still sell well being the cheaper models, but they are really a letdown even worse than last years 13.
