11 September 2022
Apple execs delivered a long presentation on Wednesday, highlighting all the best features on the iPhone 14 series. But there are a few things worth having a second look at.

We already knew that the always-on display will turn itself off when it's in your pocket or it's face-down on a table. Apparently it will also turn off when the user has an Apple Watch and leaves the room the iPhone is in, which makes so much sense and is great attention to detail.

Mini was best iPhone in recent years, but failure with battery. Looks like they did it on purpose..

Since GSMArena isn't calling Apple out, I'm just going to do it now instead - I found it straight up deceiving that Apple's own marketing material says "48mm (Telephoto)" for the primary 48MP camera, and uses a very ambiguous term "optical-quality Telephoto" to describe its digital zoom.

Also, while on the product page they do explain that "Telephoto uses the middle 12 megapixels of the quad-pixel sensor", at the same time, they say this method can "deliver full-resolution photos" - which makes no sense given the fact that the sensor's full resolution is 48MP, not 12MP.

It's evident that Apple is intentionally trying to trick people into thinking that the 2x crop zoom from this sensor somehow has an identical quality to the 1x by using contradicting and confusing terms and narratives. Huawei, Xiaomi, Oppo and Asus have been all using Quad Bayer sensors to achieve 2x lossless crop zoom for a while now, but I've never seen them advertising such a feature in the way Apple does. This just feels flat-out wrong.

        Cut the BS, Apple.

Awful how there's no more competition in this industry now that the US torpedoed Huawei.

No way! Another way of Apple to infuse monopoly and dictate people (its fanatics) to believe its the new way (esim), but the truth is its greed to the highest level with recycled design and materials. Never again to this bulls't company!

Isn't the 2x zoom on the iPhone 14 pro just the same as cropping?

Wait, no one realised that the new "2 times optical zoom" is just last year's "2 times digital zoom"? They crop the center of the image and call it a zoom. Nobody call Apple out on that? On GSMArena, a site that we would think have some tech knowledge?

It’s like old time when almost every one used to believe that earth is flat, sun goes around the earth thing and because everyone believes it, it must be true.
Good is good and bad is bad. Doesn’t matter how many people, company copy it or not. Moreover, others will follow anything that gives them more profit.

                        Great Article.

Well, they should have called iPhone 14, iPhone 13S or not release them at all. What’s the point anyway? Why not just launch the pro version and forget about the others? Anyone who can afford the non pro can also afford the prod version.

I despise that the cameras of the 14 and 14 plus are still 12mpx and the fact they distinguished them from the pro versions just proves that the pro doesn’t really bring anything new to the table, other than the camera and the notch which is still a notch.

The cheapest iphone is in USA. Moving to esim exclusively is gonna stop many ppl from buying in USA because it is cheaper than in their locations.

It's simple way of monopoly from phone manufacturers and carriers. I don't know how is it okay being limited to whatever you want to do because devices now almost removed the important features of the phone. That's how people suffer, go with the trend then complain when suffers. No wonder, cycle is inevitable.

IpsDisplay, 11 Sep 2022I don't think the GSMARENA team knows what hot takes a... moreSadly, many normal articles on other tech sites nowadays try to use this „hot take“ language to spice up normal articles that should just be a reproduction of facts. If you want to look what I mean, 9to5mac has an author called Ben Lovejoy and I cannot stand his writing which is why I actively avoid it. He’s writing headlines like „Why it is good that the new iPhone is more expensive“ and then the content is some fluff injected with wrong facts like „the current pricing strategy of $999 and $1099 was set with the iPhone 11 Pro and 11 Pro Max“ no it was not there were the XS and XS Max before, if it is your job to write about iPhones then I‘d guess you would at least be able to remember the two dozens of iPhone models that exist. I‘ve seen such articles by other websites like ZDNet linked on Reddit as well, it‘s really just an attention contest in which quality suffers.

In contrast, I‘m happy that GSMArena has authors who don’t need this, but their comment sections and polls are trash.

For United States buyers, I think they're better off getting the iPhone 13 series for cheaper. Same SoC as the non-pro 14s. The removal of a sim tray is a controversial decision that will only get worse once more Android OEMs copies it which will happen like the removal of headphone jack, microSD slot, and charger in the box.

I've seen Razr (2019/4G) go for $200 on eBay. But I never have the urge to get one because my Razr 5G has a sim tray and the 4G model doesn't. I have a sim ejector next to my keys. I'm already used to swapping my sim with my multiple phones. I don't want to deal with this eSim nonsense that's like the old days using CDMA on Verizon or Sprint.

I'm old school. The iPhone that seems to interest more is the SE 2022. A design from 2014 but it has Touch ID which I prefer. The touch gestures are overrated. Can ruin your video watching experience when you want to toggle brightness and volume. And I've used gestures since webOS. SE3 has A15 chip or the same as the non-pro 14s but about $300 cheaper.

The iPhone 14 series is like the 7 series. Removed a very useful feature that will tick off consumers for years to come. The 7 removed headphone jack. The 14 removed sim tray. The 13 series looks to be the last to have a mini model and sim tray for American users.

Airpods has ZERO repairability. Easier to lose be ause awful design.
Poor battery endurance. Battery that cannot be replaced because it was bad designed and costs as much as huge headphones.

But to you it is better than earphone jack that has no of these compromises.
Iphone did not get thinner and more "waterproof" as Apple claimed it would to fool costumers.
