But people tend to remember the bad stuff only, yes some iOS updates were worse or in one case just plain terrible (iPhone 4S it’s last update is a great example)
But the other 95% it went smoothly people forget on purpose, because then there would be no reason to rant about anything.
(as a windows user, broken updates are something I am used to, so it could be worse)

In my country 2 of the biggest banks still didn’t fix their app on Android 13 because “Samsung didn’t update their phones yet”, totally IGNORING Pixel phones that already run it.
And don’t get me started about the fact that the biggest bank in my country still didn’t fix payment issues on WearOS, because they don’t use Google Pay.

If not, my colleague will probably need to wait for IOS 16.0.1 software update or something.

Some bank apps have stopped working after IOS 16 update (RB Klic app for example, Raiffeisen bank app). Pathetic and annoying, for people who actually require this bank apps for online transactions and so on. The app just crashes, is not even entering in it. My colleague and I, tried uninstalled the app and install it again. It didn't help. And the app worked normally on IOS 15.6.1 and IOS 15.7. Also, I tried the same app on a Samsung phone and it works perfectly, so is not because of the app or the bank.
So, Apple is not so "prefect" in software update either. Bugs can appear in every software update, not just Android.

You being a former android user knows pretty much every pros and cons on each devices. We both have our own preferences. I'm using Samsung btw. Now base on the previous ios updates, are you certain that there will no bricked iphones on ios 16?

If it was so bad, all the updates I've updated to the moment they were out in the last 4 years, surely one would brick my phone. Yet behold, it hasn't. :/

We've now established that you actually don't have an iPhone yet you're writing here like you have all the experience about it. And everyone that whines about "walled garden" all the time don't have a single clue about anything. I have an iPhone and I don't use any Google or Apple service. So, how is it a "walled garden" when I'm free to use whatever I want? And now I just know you'll bring out the usual "muh sideloading" and "muh custom ROMs". Arguments. Only pirates care so deeply about sideloading and custom ROM's are all trash and use of them brings more problems than benefits. Yes, I've been flashing Android phones with them for a decade. It's just not worth the hassle, which is why I pick only vendors that provide long official support, be it Apple or if I'll consider Android again, it'll be Samsung.
Any more of made up claims up your sleeve?

Hey guys I've updated my iPhone 13 to iOS 16 and so far so good.
No bugs / lags / app crashes noticed until now.
Will downgrade back after 1-2 days if I do notice anything bad.
I've already downloaded the latest iOS 15 file from IPSW which is still installable and took an icloud backup before installing iOS 16.
