Guy..guy...guy...please...
DOnt get amazed with this "3GHz" buzzword...actually this is
ARM based technology not X86 desktop processor..ARM is
very limited processing and using very-2 low power consumption transistors inside the core circuit.

You cant compare this 3Ghz quad core with last 10 years
Pentium4_3ghz_1core.Its really different in term of nature of task handling.X86 is more powerful due to
more instruction set designed inside the cpu like SSE2-SSE4,intel FMA,intel AES.
Pentium 4 has SIMD MMX,MMX+,EMMX and hyper treading technology.
For Sure current mobile Quadcore cant carry window OS
as they to be designed for light mobile task.
Actually the frequency "GHZ" master race is nothing and meaningless as for now.
Its really realy two different thing.Comparing them
is making no sense at all.
Im not shock of this news because last 10 years ago
we already has 3Ghz microprocessor for computer....but innovation in mobile is welcome for me....just my2cent

I wanted to add, it's sad to see that there are always people for dragging us back, whether it's for processing power, memory amount, display resolution or optical sampling (photos/videos).

Like other said, what's wrong with technology making progress. I think that many ppl commenting that way haven't much tasted about computer history and haven't seen the progress made to arrive to what they are using today.

And whether you agree or not, every company jumps into that, Samsung, Apple, Sony, HTC, LG etc.. Just to enhance possibilities, even if not used 100%, and off course showcasing capabilities to appeal both customers and developpers.

AnonD-77499, 20 Feb 2013I am sure Nokia will once again keep using the same chipset... moreHmm my P4's could copy several things at a time.. Off course, you had to use WinNT / 2000 and then XP for that (talking about Windows OS, other OS'es would do that too) with DMA set drives... But hey, it's not IT course here.

For the rest i do agree :)

I totally agree with 3zukr. By next 2yrs, New release of 5G Network and 4D graphics. Android v8.2 and a New OS powerful than android. 25Mega pixels. Multi multi touch screen and a human sensor.

You're not a master of phones, no one does.

There's some details missing from this article. One of the best things about this chip is that it will run at 1GHz on just 0.6V, so at that speed it uses half the power of the previous generation. FD SOI means it uses 35% less power at high speed than other similar 28nm chips. What's the point? Well, a 3GHz cortex A9 is about as fast as a 2GHz cortex A15, and a 0.6V cortex A9 uses about the same power as a standard cortexA7. So you get the benefits of the big.Little octacore chip, but it's only half the size

Development in Electronics and increase in processing capacity must ALWAYS be welcomed !!!

Besides new hardware always has better Efficiency and more performance/$ !!

Landlines evolved into Cell Phones because of technological development..

Any increasing no of cores and performance is an Evolution in life..

P4 with Win98 couldnt copy two things at the same time.. but Win7 with quadcore CPUs can do it with ease. i dont see you complaining about that... So why you ppl complaining about increased number of cores in cell phones?? Even when you get a better Flagship phone for same amount of money(around $600)???
Is it because your phone is getting old comparatively...

Moore's Law must be followed and hardware's performance must double every 18 months... for good development in electronics..
SO Development in Electronics must always be welcomed for our future.... And if you dont like it Buy a Nokia 3310 instead

ngx, 20 Feb 2013not even laptops use dat much power nowadays....i guess dey... moreComputer as we understand it today, will be obsolete in near future. All calculations that average person needs will be done by smartphones. In other words, every person will have his computer in the pocket. Browsing internet, blogging, listening to the music, watching videos, using midrange apps - is all you need, really.
You will need computers for professional tasks (video/audio editing, database managing, accounting, ...) but I suspect with time even those tasks will be easily cracked by future smartphones. So don't be afraid of image of 16-core smartphones with 2GB of graphic memory and 8GB RAM, but embrace the progress and move with it into the future. Because sooner or later we all will get there anyway.
