Ice Universe: the Samsung Galaxy S23 will have slightly thicker bezels than the S22

15 September 2022
According to Ice's measurements, the S23 will be 0.3mm taller and 0.3mm wider than the S22. And all of that is accounted for by extra bezel around the 6.1" display.

It's even better. Have they used a phone with edge screens while laying down? I hate to admit that iPhones are better than most of the Androids from that perspective. And Samsung is at least keeping up while also introducing newer concepts like folding screens.

This is likely adhesive/seal related. Different SOC and battery, so different thermal performance and so on. It could be durability related too, I do recall the S22 family (particularly the Ultra) being devastating in the drop tests. My Pixel 5, virtually the same as the S22 size-wise, is a tank in comparison.

I hope this slightly thicker bezel means better usability as it's meant to be the place where you hold your phone. slim bezel is fine, but you need dead zone to prevent accidental touch. it could be worked around by software or firmware settings, but could pose a problem to muscle memory.

optimistically, hope there's a study about this so an equilibrium between bezel, usability, and muscle memory would be achieved.

If this is to accommodate larger battery, then I don't mind. I want to buy compact S22 but its terrible battery life really stopped me.
