Google tests reactions to SMS messages from iPhones

29 September 2022
Apple has shown no interest in supporting RCS, so Google is giving Apple a taste of its own medicine.

dj, 30 Sep 2022Why doesn't Google make GMessages (with RCS) avilable ... moreGoogle Messages IS available on iOS.....

This is the right way to go about it. Let Apple interpret the emoji SMS similarly if they don't want their users to be annoyed. Or maybe let go of the iMessage monopolistic practices.

dj, 30 Sep 2022Why doesn't Google make GMessages (with RCS) avilable ... moreApple doesn't permit the default SMS app to be changed. Apple hasn't opened up the iMessage protocol. This is not up to Google.

Apple runs a nice monopoly with iMessage and Americans stay on iPhone for iMessage, so they are never going to play nice.

Meanwhile the rest of the world uses WhatsApp and Signal and doesn't care.

Why doesn't Google make GMessages (with RCS) avilable on ios? Then these Android > apple phone reactions can contain the annoying reaction description as well as a link to a better messaging app for their rubbish idevice.

Apple and its users totally deserve this. Apple refuses to work on an update to SMS. And I don't know how many Apple users I've heard complain arrogantly that the problem with reactions is that Android phones don't work right, because they don't understand the difference between the iMesssge backend and SMS and that Apple is deliberately making things incompatible.

Duo and Hangouts both existed for different uses, not just mere chat apps. Messages was for SMS. Duo was like Face Time. So I advise you to brush up your info about Google's apps before you go and label them as mere flopped apps that didn't come from the almighty appel

It's not Apple's fault that Google is behind in having a proper messaging app. They killed tons of messaging apps for one reason or another. iMessage has been there since 2011 and has been steadily improving.

What about RCS? A "modern standard" that doesn't even support group chat E2EE in 2022 and only took off in 2019, when it has existed longer than iMessage? Maybe ask Google first to actually make it better first before demanding someone else to adapt a crappy "standard"? Can't believe the ad easily worked on people making people think Apple deliberately made non-iMessage users green bubbles when it has been like that since the first iPhone which just meant it was sent on SMS LOL.
