29 September 2022
Apple has shown no interest in supporting RCS, so Google is giving Apple a taste of its own medicine.

as an American, oh yeah. Americans with iPhones LOVE using iMessage, but they also use Snapchat and Instagram a lot too.
Think about it: Why do you think Apple was putting so many updates and stuff into iMessage alone?
It’s because it’s an American thing.
Now as for WHY they use iMessage a lot, I don’t know. Maybe for mental “exclusivity”?

Google sniffed that this niche feature has a market, so they created it. It is not simply a "desperate" move... Google's action is rational and follows the scent of profit

'Google’s call to action didn’t do much'

Well no surprises there given Google's track record with promoting messaging standards. Given their dismal history in this regard Google might be better served asking Apple what they should do, rather than trying to tell Apple to do......

blue, 29 Sep 2022Sorry, but this time it's you who is wrong. Google... moreAnd how is that any different? They spawned so many versions of "social" apps that all did chat/SMS too, that you end up not knowing which one is even relevant now. It's why no one takes RCS seriously.

And despite using iPhone, I either still just use SMS due to compatibility across literally all devices or 3rd party apps like Signal because of encryption.

[deleted post]Sorry, but this time it's you who is wrong. Google's messaging app was never killed and restarted. What you talk about are "social" chatting apps like Duo or whatever, but the basic messaging app was always here.

Yeah , I don't trust any kind of messaging from Google. They have a horrible track record of abandoning messaging products. Also I don't need another American controlled standard, so NO to both

OK, Google... How old are you, developers? Five? Thank you, leaving Google Messages again.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2022Here we go again 🤦🏻‍♂️ why Android so desperate?? WTF!? 🤦🏻‍... moreDesperate? This is literally because Apple doesn't want to play well with others. They intentionally make everyone's experience worse. RCS is arguably better, and is compatible on more phones. Nothing is stopping Apple from supporting RCS. On the flip side, Apple won't let anyone else use their proprietary iMessage stuff.

Anonymous, 29 Sep 2022Why can't Google make their own app to compete with iMessageIt's not Google, it's Apple that should support a modern standard like RCS. Instead they just use their own method just like the lightning port.

Google being a sore loser is nothing new. They play the available to all game when its for them while messing up with companies like microsoft and amazon in providing a youtube app for their OS.
